It was my father's 21st birthday.
Quite a present the young man received, eh?
He joined the Marines and slogged it out on Guam. His older brother did the same at Guadalcanal.
Happy birthday, Dad. Thank you for your love and your wisdom, and for the example you always set of what it means to be a man. You never once failed to meet your own standards.
I've never needed any hero except one, and you've always been it.

It is also my youngest daughter's 29th birthday. She was born on Pearl Harbor Day in our Bi-Centennial year. Unsurprisingly she has exhibited great courage and is my heroine.
Must be something about the day that imbues people with a ton of 'special'.
From your post, I assumed your father is still with us. I hope so. Wish him a happy birthday from me and thank him for me also.
Ditto ... Happy Birthday from a brother (though younger) Marine.
We owe him and his generation a debt we can never repay.
Thank you.
Just spoke with him. He played 18 holes today and shot an 82.
Thank you Mr. Codrea for your service to our Country!
Your son David is doing a good job of serving our country as well.
The pen is mightier than the sword!
