"arms" as mentioned in the 2A means all, not just firearms or edged weapons, or clubs, it means all. Ergo, none of them may be prohibited according to the founders.
You are right David C. that sometimes we fail to remember that there are more arms than just guns which the government is admonished "shall not be infringed".
"Arms" banned in England go all the way down to knives, so the ruling is significant.
There are knife restrictions here--switchblades, which would allow you to open the tool and still keep one hand free--a potentially life-saving capability--are banned. Carrying a concealed knife with a blade over the designated inch length is a felony in many states. And I posted a while back about some moron DA who wanted to ban a fantasy knife that collectors pay hundreds for because it looked so wicked.
Somehow the erm "Molon Labe" is the first thing that comes to mind. I have a small, but nice collection of edged weapons. All of which were specifically designed for fighting.
The cowardly fear exhibited by many those in government. Is undoubtedly due to the common knowledge among L.E. That it is better to be shot, than it is to be stabbed.
In the local CCW course, they teach that if confronted by a person with a knife drawn. And a person with a gun. Who do you take down first? The knife!

Because they will eventually inevitably cause a backlash against LE and maybe government itself.
The problem is not that they are afraid to trust us. The problem is they know what they are going to do that they shouldn't.
