Hardy was in custody 86 days. Robb said the sentence might be perceived as harsh, but said Americans should be made aware of Canadian gun penalties. Canada Border Services Agency officers found a loaded .22-calibre semi-automatic pistol in a case under the passenger seat of Hardy's vehicle as he entered Canada July 18 at the Blue Water Bridge.
Yeah, no criminal record, gun cased under the seat. Sure sounds risky to me. For Hardy.
But it is what it is, and we need to understand the consequences of carelessness or defiance, do what we can to avoid the first, and approach the second seriously and with as many precautions as we can.

The same is true for every American that brings a long gun to hunt in Canada or Canucks who hunt in their own country. Permits, licenses, and registrations don't prevent theft or lost. They just create a revenue stream for the gov't.
And a long gun (or should I say sniper rifle?) for hunting big game is a LOT more powerful than a pee-wee .22. Doesn't danger increase linearly with caliber?
When you get to the border the Canadians will ask if you have anything to declare. If you say yes they wave you forward to the customs area. Now you are fucked because you are inside Canada now. Now if they find something they don't like they will charge you with anything they think they can make stick or overcharge you to force you to plea. I pulled out a 22-250 swift with a big 16x leupold scope and they almost pissed their pants. I had some reactive targets they thought were bombs and I ended up in jail and charged with a felony. They seized my car, seized all the stuff we were going to declare. I remember they guard said "thats an $80,000 car you have". I said "yes, why do you ask?" and he said "because I'm taking it". Seriously, no American sportsman should ever set foot in Canada. They hate Americans.
I agree, never set foot in Canada if you can help it. They are backwards fools who love nothing more than to steal American's money and property then laguh about it.
I must be older than the other commenters here, because I can remember when I loved Canada and Canadians, all except those whiny French Canadians, but face it, there isn't much you can say good about anything that starts with "French", not even the dressing.
However, at the moment, I wouldn't give you a used condom filled with gonnorhea riddled semen for the whole damn dominion. It would be overpayment.
I had grown up wanting to go to Canada on a hunt. But when they stuck a dick nine feet long in their own citizens for use or possession of firearms, but would excuse me if I was going to bring American money to their economy and they would allow me to do what their own citizens did not have the right to do, I said "Fuck them". Not polite, but a Hell of a lot more acceptable in honest society than their position.
One of the things I do when I comment on blogs is kind of look at the tone set by the site owner.
