As Reasonable People

The doctrine of nuclear disarmament represents mankind's (grudging) admission that we can't be trusted with nuclear weapons. But where guns are concerned, the political gales seemingly have eroded our resolve to abide by what our instincts tell us: that no halfway ''controls'' will succeed at mitigating gun violence. As long as there are guns in general circulation there will be Columbines and Virginia Techs and Amish school shootings, and more massacres like the one that took place in Wisconsin.

As reasonable people, we already know the only approach that would be effective in preventing such horrors. The question is whether we have the will to undertake it.
Until I got to the conclusion, I couldn't tell where he was going with his disjointed babblings, but now it's clear. Somebody needs to buy this child a box of disposable wipes.

The obvious fact that this only happens in "gun free zones" never rings a bell in these people's "minds".

O.K., I've tried twice to comment on this article, and both times my comments just disappeared into the ether.

Rather, it's the availability of guns that makes today's skirmishes more lethal, when they do occur. In the schools of my youth, arguments sometimes ended in fist fights; kids walked home with bloody noses. But they walked home.

What the hell "availability of guns" is he talking about? I don't know how old he is, but in the last 40 years, we've had the GCA, NICS, and such laws reducing the availability of guns, and nothing I can think of increasing it.

Kent--what "minds"?

There, there, Kurt. Feel sorry for the loon, but don't get caught up in his world and expect the madness to make sense...:)

And Crotalus--don't feel bad. A different site wouldn't post my comment either--maybe my suggestion that someone should buy the editorialist a tube of Monostat had soemthing to do with that...

...the lone constant in all of these tragic episodes was the gun itself.

Wrong. It was a) the presence of at least one deranged psychopath and b) the presence of multiple defenseless targets.

You'll never completely eradicate guns nor will you ever wipe out the creation of these evil creatures. What's left? Letting the rest of us fight back.
