Spanish movie star JAVIER BARDEM almost turned down his acclaimed new role in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN - because he hates guns. Are you sure it was scarring? It sounds more like a bad case of diaper rash...
The peace-loving actor admits he was left scarred after holding a gun in the film Perdita Durango at the beginning of his acting career, and never wanted to do it again. [More]
He's also apparently afraid of cars, is a self-centered hypochondriac whose phobias prevent him from helping those in need, is obsessed with AIDS movies, is incompetent at life in general, and fantasizes that if he were gay, he would "get married tomorrow, just to f*** with the church."
Sounds like a pretty wholesome, well-rounded guy, don't you think? Why our culture rewards these universe-revolves-around-my-navel exhibitionists and neurotics with wealth and fame is beyond my ken, but it does give us a pretty good profile of a classic hoplophobe male.
What such as he are prepared to do if they ever encounter someone who does not love peace is another story. I suspect giving his attacker what he wants--be it a wallet, a posterior or a target--would be the probable outcome. You know, something that really will scar him for life, provided he is allowed to live.

A psyche weak enough to be scarred by holding an object was just waiting for some excuse to be damaged. Personally I think he is lying about it to "make a point". Well, I get his point, all right.
This apparently goes way beyond politically induced hoplophobia. This clown really IS certifiable, and shouldn't be let out without a keeper.
If you watch the trailers for this movie you will have a hard time believing all this.
In the movie, it appears that he is bent on destroying everything in his way to his end goal.
How do you portray that so well, if you hate all violence.
As the late George Burns is quoted as saying, "Acting is all about honesty. If you can fake that, you've got it made."
"I want to act because I don't know how to do anything else."
Javier Bardem
According to what I read this guy revels in being a hypocrite and doesn't know how to do anything else. After all, the root of our word "hypocrite" comes from the Greek word "hypokrites" which was their word to describe a "stage actor" or one who acted in plays and dramas.
Now, you know what's wrong with the entire entertainment industry -- they're nothing but a bunch of hypocrites that mooch off the rest of us.
This is hoot -- people listen to and believe this ignorant liar.
I hope the actors who have to interact with this f***tard get paid really well.
It must be nasty - and a potential health risk - having to work around a panty-crapper who has to wear soiled pampers in order to work.
Spanish males used to be manly men. I can't understand how anyone in Ms. Bardem's home country would even watch a movie that this pussy acts in.
I guess it's gotten as bad in Spain as it has over here.
I wonder what he'd do if he had to ride in a tank. Since he's phobic about driving and guns, it might just push him over the edge.
Who is mas macho - Javier Bardem or Rosie O'Donnell?
Pretty sad commentary on Spanish males, when a hoplophobic Spanich male is scared s**tless about guns, while America's favorite chubby lesbian is willing to have armed guards keep her, her children and her wife, safe.
Seems like his recent statements have made him a potential target for anyone with a car and a dull spoon for a weapon.
Idiot.
