Meanwhile, Over at the Cult of Set...

How does a cult figure, in the eyes of some something akin to a messiah, make the transition to a political frontrunner - president even - where disappointment will soon crush what seemed to be a journey to a promised land?

Looking into the faces of a more than 16,000-strong crowd in a basketball stadium in Hartford, Connecticut this week, the Mandela magic I'd seen before was there too. Black and white, and the youth; they appeared in a state close to rapture watching Obama speak. Here and there one could see women crying and the some men wiping away tears too.

I'm surprised nobody was speaking in tongues and rolling in the aisles.

This wasn't a political rally, it was a gathering of Thulsa Doom followers.

I talked about the mindlessness here, where I neglected to mention one of the YouTube commentators credited Obama with giving her the strength to flush her cigarettes down the toilet. Can the laying on of hands be far off?

These are, of course, the first people to bristle and hiss like the snakes they worship at any hint of Judeo-Christian values in the public discourse. If it doesn't issue fatwahs, worship Gaia, or revel in the carnal, it deserves no tolerance...

Obama is not a political phenomenon. He's a mystical one. And that ought to scare the hell out of us.

Unlike the majority of the people who comment on this blog (and the majority of humans everywhere) I have no belief in anything supernatural. However, for the Christians among us, Obama should ring some very clear "Anti-Christ" bells. It creeps me out when any politician can reduce people to tears.

Shades of Nehemiah Scudder!

As for the Thulsa Doom reference, I give you this:
"Know, O prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and in the years of the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars....Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet"

We have to wait 'til 2012 for Scudder, Ace...

Yeah, I'm crediting him and the "others" for giving me the strength(and check) to store up some higher grains of my own! Who's scared now?

Shades of the Austrian corporal.

I hate to say this, but I saw the exact same reactions to Jack Kennedy. Don't know if there is a comparison to draw there, but it does seem that as a nation we have not outgrown our belief in fairy godmothers.

Or worse, our need for them.

Jumped the gun. Sorry.

You'll know its bad when Obama picks up a Copperhead and kisses it.

It's official, the Devil has a visible candidate on both sides now. The Huckster for the Republicans, and Obama for the Democrats.

BTW Kent, out of hand writing off the existence of the spiritual world is not the wisest thing to do.

Oh, it wasn't "out of hand", but the result of much reflection and experience. Yet, I don't exactly write off the existance of a spiritual world, I simply no longer have any belief in it. If you want more insight into my reasons, look here.

So given the reality of things now, do we a) help ensure his victory in November? or b) vote for the most viable alternative?

Straightarrow, I don't know if you saw this, but it fits.

Kent,

In your "much reflection and experience" you've looked at part of the equation. What about the rest of it?

Wikipedia article Devil's Tramping Ground.
essortment article Devil's Tramping Ground.

After all, if you are going to be certain there is no spiritual world, then you had better be certain all the way around.

I don't agree with the folklore, but there is no physical explanation for the occurrence. This is only one of numerous odd, unexplained "occurrences" in this country alone. I can mention a number of strange things that individuals have testified to in Haiti, Cuba, Africa, etc.

Before you decide that you know for sure, you had better make sure that someone far smarter than you isn't pulling the wool over your eyes.

I don't know about "we," but I'm keeping my word and voting for Ron Paul in my primary. If all the republicans don't want a dem president, I suggest they do that too, otherwise there will be one, and then we'll get to see how serious everybody is.

Paul- Sounds like a UFO landing site to me, after all one does not need to infer an entire realm that violates the laws of physics for that to be the case, as would be necessary to "explain" it with magical monsters. If you wanna discuss more of this we can take it off David's blog and write me at dullhawk@hotmail.com.

Well, according to the scientists, the laws of physics were suspended for their "Big Bang', and you believe in that don't you?

Don't get your scientific info from creationists, please. That is like getting gun info from the BATFEces goons.
