OL: The Assault Weapons Ban-- you voted against it. But you also said you might be open to voting for an assault weapons ban, depending on the details. Do you know any details that would support that argument?"Maybe we could draw one"? And you're "sure"?
McCain: No, because a lot of these are weapons that people use for sport, for practice and for enjoyment- outdoor enjoyment. So no, I don't see a scenario where that would be the case. I'm sure maybe we could draw one. But the danger of an assault weapons ban spilling into weapons that people would use for everyday hunting is, I think, the challenge.
Go ahead, Senator, flesh this out for us, including why your fallback is it might present "sporting purposes" complications.
And while you're at it, maybe you could draw a scenario and give us details that would support the argument for "outlawing cheaply made handguns called Saturday night specials."

McCain is just another lying politico. He swears an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution, and then turns around and pretends he can't read English. Were in the Second Amendment does it say only sporting arms are protected?
I would love to see a politician challenge the entire premise of an "assault weapon" asking a crowd to distinguish a preban AR15 from a postban with fixed collapsible-style stock and soldered muzzle brake. They would look identical to the crowd. He could just say "See it's all a smoke and mirrors trick to ban more guns" Same with glowbull warming, accept a bullshit premise then try to argue against it. FAIL
Hell, Joe that is exactly what was done in Congress during the hearing prior to the AWB. It made no difference in the outcome. Truth and liberty were not on the agenda and any advocacy for either was simply ignored.
Chuckie Shumer when faced with facts he could not dispute, would wait until the witness was dismissed, then critique what they said when they could no longer respond to his falsehoods and ad hominem attacks.
We are not in a debate with decent people who don't understand. We are in a fight with people who do understand and don't intend to allow liberty and its tools to interfere with their evil plans.
I read here and elsewhere that a lot of people walked out of McCain's speech near the beginning at the NRA convention
when he showed support for ending the "gun show loophole." They must have for some reason been SURPRISED by the statement. HOW?
I remember a Friends of NRA dinner where one esteemed guest was a state legislator who voted for the one-gun-a-month limit. Once an informed member pointed this out, he was booed from the hall.
Someone said the NRA magazine this month has a very McCain-friendly article. They're going to pretend that better candidate Ron Paul doesn't exist, or Bob Barr either, and Barr was on their list of congressional advisers.
People need to read a variety of sources and make their own assessments. The NRA's mission is to continue the NRA's mission, just as a politician's first priority is re-election.
