And the Meek Shall Inherit What, Exactly...?

U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek said today that last week’s shooting in Miami that left seven injured and two dead shows the need for reinstating the federal ban on assault weapons. [More]

We I think we should go back to the assault weapons ban, ...

Well, that would "turn back the clock" -- which I thought was always a bad thing, right?

At least that's what Progressives tell us. Progressives: get it?

He represents the Liberty City section of Miami, where the shootings took place.

David, you forgot to mention all the race riots that have happened there over the years. Google can show you the sordid history.

the comments in that article are encouraging. not a single one voices anything but contempt for "assault weapon" bans, and bans on firearms in general.

Did anyone go read the OTHER article about the shooting?

The guy pops off ~100 rounds, kills two, wounds 7.

He then flees the scene, but secondary casings were found not far from the scene, however the guy hasn't been nabbed. Thoughts that maybe he tried to have a go at another civilian and got shot for his trouble?

As far as the gun grabbing goes, maybe if people were able to defend themselves he would have only gotten off 10 rounds as opposed to 100.

A federal ban on mil-style semi-autos would just mean that I, Caspar Milquetoaste Walter Mitty, would bring mine out of the safe and into the car. Local law says carrying one with a loaded 30-round magazine in an area of more than 200,000 population is a misdemeanor all on its own. Telling me merely owning one is a federal felony will just encourage me. If *I* fell THAT strongly, imagine the Crips, Bloods, Gangster Disciples, Hell's Angels...
We will never need guns more than when they say we can't have them. I didn't say that, the Founders did.
This isn't the first administration to have impossible dreams.

There will be more 'assault-weapon' shootings in the coming months in order to justify the ban. Not that I'm paranoid or cynical or anything.
