It's easier than dealing with the real issues, and he knows he'll get plenty of publicity and support. Such posturing will help mollify some of the anti-defense zealots demanding gun bans NOW, plus, when the time is right, he'll be better positioned to press forward with the next round of infringements.
He's even confident enough in his position that he knows he can repeat the 90% lie even though he knows it's not true. To their credit, Stephen Dinan and The Washington Times threw a flag on that and gave us a pretty balanced report.

Fact: Mexico is the 6th place in the world for murder. The US is 24th, so why in the hell are we not sealing that border with such a violent country and allowing that violence to be exported into our country.?
That is the question that needs to be asked over and over and over.
Because that's not on the front page of the Brady Center's website, that's why. There's an awful lot of projecting going on when the NRA collides with its critics, and they are characterized as commanding a bunch of unquestioning automatons, but the White House staff simply repeats everything in Helmke's blog.
If things keeping going this way, there's going to be a few more reasons to call the President "Ten Percent Barry".
i think an even better question is:
who in their right mind trusts a government to seal a border? and just who owns that border property, anyways? it's their business.
and, you been paying attention to all those other wonderful things they're doing for you?
and, you been paying attention to the cost of the bill for that?
Look at all the borders the US military seals in other places throughout the world. It can be done but its not going to be done any time soon.
I seem to recall a line from that crappy movie, Apocolypse Now, that goes, " The whole thing was being run by a bunch of four-star clowns who were going to wind up giving the whole circus away", or some such. The horror. The horror. This guy is like an episode of the Simpsons, everytime Lisa opens her mouth.
