New Gallup Poll on Guns

In Gallup polling conducted prior to last week's gun massacre at an immigrant center in Binghamton, N.Y., only 29% of Americans said the possession of handguns by private citizens should be banned in the United States. While similar to the 30% recorded in 2007, the latest reading is the smallest percentage favoring a handgun ban since Gallup first polled on this nearly 50 years ago. [More]
Just got this from the folks at Gallup. I haven't had time to digest it yet but don't want to let that delay me from bringing it to you for review and comment.

I'll be interested in seeing the "after" numbers.

I will say, as with all such media polls I've seen, there's no way to establish the knowledge of respondents with the issue. Hell of a thing when policy is driven by ignorance, and as we continually see, engineered ignorance at that.

It's very nice that the number is falling, I suppose, but I honestly don't care. If Gallup said 99.999% thought anything should be banned, that still wouldn't make it anybody's business what I did so long as it wasn't demonstrably hurting them.

I don't farm out my own defense; I wouldn't even if the police gave a damn whether I live or die. Possession of the means of self-defense is the mark of a complete, mature being. I don't pull my cats' claws or my dogs' teeth; nobody should try to legislate what I may or may not carry in my holster. I will most certainly disobey any law that tries to infringe on my absolute right to defend myself, my family and my friends. Polls be damned.

I believe any polling on any Constitutional issues should be outlawed. The reason is this is a republic and nothing but so it doesn't matter what the dumb down masses from the government schools parrot.

Amen, AvgJoe.

Common sense isn't so common these days.

Especially, when these traitors are undermining the very core of out 'liberty foundation' with impunity.

The people who attempt to use a reading on what any particular poll indicates for the basis of initiating legislation are nothing more than "mobacrasists" (a hybrid of democrats, socialists, globalists, and marxists).

I, for one, am just getting really tired of newsmedia sensationalism and pot stirring no matter the goal. To the MSM, all they are concerned with is selling subscriptions and higher ratings which translates to pay raises and job security. In most cases, the MSM doesn't give two sh%$ts about life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness.

They might want to take one more poll, though:

Is government abrogation of constitutional limitations on that goverment's ability to infringe on the possession and use of arms worth causing a restoration war over?

It should perhaps also be noted that close to 50% of the population has a below average intelligence. I wonder what the degree of overlap is.
