Seeing as how prone they are to leaving sidearms behind, the department probably doesn't want to spend big bucks on expensive autoloaders. Or maybe a dept-issued throw-down?
Well, we all know the ultimate answer. That woman, and every other person who doesn't need custodial care must be armed and trained to defend themselves.
Getting out of California would be a good first step...
I gotta admit, the first thing that popped into my head when I read about the 'revolver' was: Some people are too stupid to be rapists.
