The sergeant, Robert Ralston, claimed that he approached a man on the railroad tracks. The man allegedly pulled out a gun and fired, striking Ralston in the shoulder before fleeing the scene.Gee, if he wanted people to think he was a hero, couldn't he have just reported a smoking car or something...?

We had one of our local only ones do this a couple of years ago. He shot himself in the shoulder with a shotgun after shooting up his patrol car. A citizen was given a felony stop, luckily they didn't get shot. The thug did it so he could get disability. Of course the judge gave him shock probation. He has been back to court a couple of times since, for not paying the restitution. Of course he is still out on the street.

Ralston will get his pension:
Ralston will not face criminal charges because he was offered immunity from prosecution in exchange for his confession. That means he will most likely receive his pension, Ramsey said.
"It was the only way we could tie this up," Ramsey said of the arrangement.
Ralston's pension has not yet been calculated, but a city official estimated that he would collect about $24,000 annually if he took his pension now.
