I have multiple levels of survival gear staged, from fanny packs with food bars, water and first aid for each family member to full ALICE pack and harness to 10-gallon storage bins with beans, rice and MRE components. Two weeks reserve of essential medications. Got a big family tent, a two-man tent and some GI shelter halves and a yard to set them up in. The government need not come and try to HELP me and my family. I insist.
My granddaughter, God bless her simple heart, is going into the military soon. The question of illegal orders came up. She said "Obey 'em anyway. Following orders is MY JOB."
Gotta have a long talk with that girl. What would I be prepared to do? If she was part of a New Orleans-type goon squad, I'd try to talk her out of it, but I'd do what I had to. Oppression needs willing hands, sometimes deluded, sometimes glad to hold power over others, sometimes just in solidarity with the soldier on their left and right. I've seen the hotdogs who don't care what the mission is, they just want to accomplish it and get bragging rights. They're not indestructible, or even always particularly tactical.
