From his headquarters at the John Wallace house near the village of Raritan, Gen. George Washington directed Gen. John Sullivan to Easton, Pa., with 2,500 troops, including the New Jersey Brigade, in order to wage war against the Iroquois Indians in northeast Pennsylvania and upstate New York.
