As Baltimore County police replace nearly 2,000 service weapons, they won't allow the old ones to be sold in gun shops — a decision that will prevent firearms from entering the open market but could triple the agency's cost. "... could triple the agency's cost."
What do they care? It's not like the agency is bearing the cost, anyway.
The taxpayers should be pitching a fit over $700,000. These guns could be sold to a distributor, then to a dealer and finally to a law abiding citizen. The chances of one of them being used in a crime are almost too small to calculate.
I suspect the taxpayers are outnumbered.
