Thing is, "democracy" is no guarantee, either, without the true egalitarian power-sharing that comes with having the means to say "No" and back it up.  We need more than a "general method of nonviolence."

We need a general method to deter violence, and to resist and overcome it when it's initiated. That means we need a general method to respond with violence.
