Tap Rack Bang posted these photos of a shotgun, sold and shipped to a Virginia dealer, which had been rigged to KILL the person using it. [More]What with those "online sales" we see the antis melting down over, is it really a leap to wonder if some fanatic is trying to discredit this transfer option? Let's hope a package trace can be matched to a corresponding security camera recording from the place of shipment.

David,
The photo shows me the guy was lucky the person did not understand the science behind firearms very well. (Thankfully!) The intended projectile (the bullet portion of the .380 cartridge) would most likely have not been propelled anywhere. Also looks like the action bar would not quite impact the primer. Though not from lack of trying. The intent of the person is self evident and frankly proof that they require a custodian for life....
A firearm is essentially like an engine with projectile or bullet being the piston. The barrel being the cylinder. No good seal and piston does not drive forward.
With no real "barrel" to contain the projectile and propellant gases what would have happened was one of two things:
1) The propellant gases would have propelled the cartridge casing forward most likely into the bolt carrier damaging the firearm .
or
2) Shattering of the wood in the neck of the butt stock driving wood shards into the shooting hand and face of the shooter.
