Does 'Necessary to the Security of a Free State' Count?

The bill is entitled the “Second Amendment is Essential Act” and would ensure that Federal Firearms License Holders are always considered “essential” by the federal government in times of emergency. [More]

I'm waiting for a number to be assigned and for this to appear on GovTrack along with a prognosis on the odds of it passing.

It will be instructive to see who votes against this.

The Second Amendment is a curious amendment. Everyone believes it protects our right to keep and bear arms. Actually this right is created elsewhere. The Second Amendment merely acknowledges that it exists. The key words are "Free State". A government that chooses to infringe on the right can no longer claim to be a free state. Now what? Go read our Declaration of Independence.

Not necessarily.

From Robert A. Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land":

Valentine Michael Smith, a human orphan raised by Martians from infancy to his twenties, has just been asked if he's learned anything that day.

“I have learned two ways to tie my shoes. One way is only good for lying down. The other way is good for walking.”

So in order to answer your question, Is a free state valuable to those who are in charge? If the answer is "No" then things necessary to having one are not only not essential. They must be rooted out.
