My family and I were on the National Mall one day when "Marine One" and the customary two decoys made their final approach for decent into the White House compound. We got to see uniformed police on horseback move the crowds out from under the flight path of the three choppers as they went by, the two decoys peeled off, and Marine One descended. Afterward,I went up to one of the mounted officers and asked about them and their horses. He said that five men on foot could control 20 or so people whereas five men on horseback could control hundreds.

Didn't see any whips or reins in use, but then they were calmly walking their horses up and down the edge of the crowd as they moved the people back and out of the way.

Watch a few rodeo videos. Whenever a rider needs to steer their horse aggressively, you'll often see them using voice, hands, feet, and yes, reins, to tell the horse what the rider wants the horse to do next.

But then, not many of those on "The Left" would ever have anything to do with rodeos or horses.

After all, horses, and the people who have anything to do with them, are yucky!

BP is like newspaper ombudsmen -- they work for the administration, which keeps them on for show, but doesn't really want them to do their jobs effectively. As far as I'm concerned, it's Thunderdome and I don't have a favorite.

Forget the whips give them some cavalry sabers.
