Youngkin at Heart

It’s hardly a secret why he stiff-armed the NRA, despite being a self-proclaimed lifelong member: that endorsement will hurt him in the suburbs. [More]

That's consistent with what I've been told -- that professional campaign Vichycons have told him it doesn't poll well.

So he's ashamed to bring us to the dance but we can wait in the back seat for when he can get to us? What have been the long-term effects been of telling Republicans they can treat desperate gun owners like their bitches and get away with it?

Youngkin is in the unique position of having a bully pulpit to refute gun-grabber lies and have his message heard. That he won't is a combination of misplaced political opportunism and cowardice -- and the fact that he probably can't -- meaning he probably buys into many of them. The investment firm he headed certainly does.

Dousing the fire in the bellies of a core constituency is no way to win an election

And it shouldn't be.

And, as Leahy points out:

Besides, what are the gun and abortion voters going to do? Stay home and let Democratic gubernatorial nominee and former governor Terry McAuliffe win?

Yes, Virginia, voters can decide to go fishing rather than show up to vote if they have doubts about a candidate’s commitment to their issues.

Youngkin is taking us fro granted. Who appreciates that?

Yes, we really CAN go fishing or hunting. Or anything else.
