When the USSR fell apart, the Russians had neither the money to remove their troops from East Germany, or barracks to house them. So they left them to become a German problem. They also didn't have the means to draw back those nuclear and conventional weapons stockpile in Ukraine. So they left them in place as well. That, presto change-o, made Ukraine one of the most heavily armed states in Europe.
Guess who came to their rescue and helped them with logistics to disarm, of their nuclear as well as conventional munitions.

OMG, that guy looks a lot like former Senator John F, Kerry (who served in Viet Nam).

During WW2, while Ukraine was under German occupation, an underground army (UPA) formed to fight the occupiers. After the defeat of Germany, this army turned its attention to the Soviets. Communists used all the dirty tricks to attempt to discredit UPA, but despite their efforts the movement was only extinguished in the early 1950s. Putin knows this history. I think it will be Ukraine's only hope...and I hope President Potatohead and his incompetent advisers do *not* get the brilliant idea of committing American forces - to divert attention from the trainwreck economy and show how tough he is, don't ya know.
