The fact is, Soe's father left a loaded gun where an untrained, impulsive and judgmentally-challenged adolescent could find it. In their lawsuit, backed by CPHV, Dix's parents maintained, among other charges, that the chamber indicator was inadequate because the gun was not inscribed with a warning as well. Presumably, were Beretta to do so, they would still be deemed negligent for not including such warnings in Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese and Tagalog.I suppose we should be grateful that a couple positive examples of gun ownership were also included. Incentivized Tyranny
Friday, former Massachusetts chemist Annie Dookhan pleaded guilty to all 27 counts of falsifying nearly 40,000 criminal drug cases, effectively upending the Massachusetts criminal justice system. Dookhan admitted to filing false test results, mixing drug samples together, and lying under oath about her job qualifications. She claimed that she committed her crimes to boost her job performance and was sentenced on Friday to three to five years in prison, plus probation. The lack of oversight and audit controls that allow someone to get away with this are, at a minimum, acts of criminal negligence and deliberate indifference.
That's the thing about incentives: If there's something in it for them, that's what they work for. If there's nothing in it for them, in this case the bloated bureaucratic parasites who administer the system the wretched and evil Dookhan exploited, they could not care less. Hell, I don't buy that they didn't know and that their incentive wasn't to let innocents have their lives destroyed as long as "management" kept looking good.

Among other things, they've been taking point on the City of Burlington's attack on preemption, a story summarized in my latest GUNS Magazine "Rights Watch" column.

Bottom line: A handful of volunteers are devoting untold hours of their lives and working very hard to protect the rights of all Vermont gun owners.
If you're such a Vermont gun owner and you haven't--as a bare minimum--educated yourself on the situation there, spread the word to educate those within your sphere of influence, and thrown a few bucks in the kitty to help these volunteers defray basic expenses so they don't also have to pay for the privilege of working on your behalf for free, then, unless there are rare and unique extenuating circumstances, why shouldn't you be considered an ingrate and a deadbeat?

And gun owners are now worried that this will not only further decrease the supply/increase the price of ammunition already hit by unprecedented demand and government procurements, but actually put the government in a position to "control" imports, with all that implies?
If that's the case, all the gun groups, industry groups and companies dependent on having ammunition for their products or customers could get together and lead their memberships in crowd-funding enough of a subsidy to make it worth Doe Run's investment to upgrade their facility -- perhaps covering the interest on loans or assuming enough of a percentage of the costs...
Then again, once the place got into compliance, the "sent hither swarms of officers" would probably move the goal posts... and does anyone know what unions are involved, and if they'd be willing to trade concessions for keeping jobs?
Perhaps the other way is to convince Congress to enact legislation to keep embedded Marxist government environmentalcases from destroying industries critical to national defense. Unfortunately (or more likely planned this way) the Republican establishment is doing its utmost to turn off its core constituents -- they're probably too stupid or compromised to do much more than snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Besides, the Dems would probably either strangle such legislation in its crib or attach so many riders we'd be better off if they did.
Gee, y'know what? It looks like there's no easy way out. I wonder if Obama, or the next likely president, Hillary (if the GOP fields another RINO), could issue an executive order to further hamper lead for ammunition and lead ammunition imports?
Is there a solution? One easier than "liberating" ammo after the fact, or just giving up...?
