Like Peas and Carrots

A new analysis of 2013 polling data on gun control that appeared yesterday on a blog from the London School of Economics and Political Science shows a majority of Democrats favor stricter gun laws, while coincidentally this morning’s Rasmussen Reports reveals a new survey showing more Democrats think illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote. A Few Bad Apples

Prosecutorial and police misconduct are often dismissed as just a few bad apples doing a few bad apple-ish things. But what happens when it’s entrenched and systemic and goes unchecked for years? That looks to be the case in Orange County, California, where the situation got so completely out of hand this spring that Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals issued an order disqualifying the entire Orange County District Attorney’s Office (that’s all 250 prosecutors) from continuing to prosecute a major death penalty case. [More]
Who thinks this is the only barrel full, and that the same findings could not be reproduced throughout the (former) Republic?

Funny, how "progressive" Slate knows how corrupt everything is, yet still does everything in its power to ensure a monopoly of violence entrusted to the abusers, and to condemn the egalitarian power-sharing afforded by the uninfringed right to keep and bear arms. It's part of that differing "solutions" to the same perceived problem I referred to in the previous post.

Neat media trick, though, where they get to paint someone -- in this case, a Mitt Romney cheerleader and friend of Bill Maher -- as being "extreme" on an issue.  They do the same thing with NRA, accusing it of being uncompromising, and calling politicians like George Bush and John McCain "right wing conservatives." That said, anything given, that allows people to avoid working for themselves, generally isn't appreciated and used wisely. If an "angel" did come forward, it would just give the slacktivists more of an excuse to keep doing nothing. I just find it instructive, that's all, that no billionaire has ponied up $50M or so because he believes the right of the people to keep and bear arms is actually necessary.

Group Used Actors for NYC Gun Store Facade

“Actors are interviewed on camera in a fake gun store,” the permits’ scene descriptions reveal. [More]
We knew the store was fake and the "proprietor" was an actor. My Freedom of Information request produced the permits showing the "customers' were actors as well. So when States United Against Gun Violence aka CeaseFire tells us it was "a hidden camera social experiment to debunk safety myths," the only myth that's been debunked here is their sneaky con job attempt at manipulation.

Also, it seems no paperwork was required to control all that "inventory," which, per New York law, also applies to "prop guns."

Republican 'leaders' block and derail campus carry in Nevada

Naturally, they both have excuses. Per the Reno Gazette Journal, Brower, “said his committee would not hear the bill because it lacked the support necessary to pass his committee,” and Roberson evidently thought prohibiting those convicted of domestic violence from gun ownership (!) was cause enough to leave all people vulnerable to campus violence. That campus carry won’t have support if the "leadership" isn’t making it a priority and an expectation becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. [More]

In a way, that could end up being a litmus test of sorts by which gun owners will be able to separate politicians who will stand with them from those who will abandon them and turn tail at the first threat of “bad” press. The solution to gun-related crime is not further arming the public. It's know making its way into the "national conversation on guns" with more frequency, and while I know some of you are fine with that, think through what that would mean, including how that does not make you a proponent of "gun control."
