The most telling thing about all this is no one who wants to prohibit the tools of self-defense is willing to acknowledge a special contractual relationship with a duty to protect all who submit to their demands, and to assume an attendant liability should they fail in that obligation. Anti-gun Academics Presume to be Above Law, Not Liable for Consequences
Bad Invasion
When a home intruder breaks into the wrong home, three residents point their weapons on him simultaneously in a crime scene defense that may be considered excessive. [More]Unless they sodomize him before the execution and eat him afterward, I'm wondering what the problem could be...

Caught Up in the Spectacle
“When a population becomes distracted by trivia, when cultural life is redefined as a perpetual round of entertainments, when serious public conversation becomes a form of baby talk, when, in short, a people become an audience and their public business a vaudeville act, then a nation finds itself at risk: culture-death is a clear possibility.”—Author Neil Postman [More]It seems like a pretty good time to revisit some words about mass madness.

That's why Heidi Kendall, a volunteer for the local chapter of Moms Demand Action, called the ordinance a first step. [More]An estimated 20,000 "gun laws" already on the books nationwide and these liars always characterize the infringement du jour as "a first step."
Want to hear what the next steps sound like?
It's obvious Jim is no relation to Ted.
Quentin M. Rhoades attempts to inject some rational considerations into the discussion.
But ultimately, for those of us who are done giving up a thing, and for whom "I will not comply" is more than just a slogan, the idiotic proposal is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Just take a look at compliance rates in places like Connecticut and New York if you doubt that comprehensive enforcement is something they don't dare try once their bluff has been called.
The bottom line response to all the would-be controllers and their useful idiots who demand a step-by-step forced march to a monopoly of violence:

We're the Only Ones Offended Enough
Off-duty cops who plan to see the pope during his tour of the Big Apple are being warned to leave their guns at home — or face being sent away and reprimanded by NYPD brass, police officials warned in a memo ... “This is our city and we should be able to carry,” a police source said, describing the policy as “very offensive.” [More]What, you don't like it? What's offensive is the rest of us would get a hell of a lot more than a reprimand. From you disgruntled "Only Ones."

And Remember, for "Progressives," Every Day is Opposite Day
On public lands, Congress should stand with American people, not anti-government extremists [More]How the organization -- that centers its entire existence around the oath its members take to the Constitution -- can be characterized as "anti-government" is not explained, naturally.
Sympathy for the Devil
![]() |
| Gimme that old time religion? |
Thinking they've found a prime "Gotcha!" to exploit, people who ignore the Constitution whenever they find it an impediment are dragging out the First Amendment Establishment Clause, and the Article VI prohibition on religious tests. The thing is, Carson never said there oughtta be a law -- he merely stated what he made clear was his personal viewpoint, and last I checked, we're still allowed to have those, even if some might take offense and issue fatwahs.
Here's the thing. Were a Muslim to be elected president (and yes, I know some will say one already has been), if he did not hold Shariah "law" above the secular as the "supreme Law of the Land," prevailing worldwide Islamic thought would brand him an apostate. And this is the person who would appoint an Attorney General, Supreme Court Justices, and... Again, there can be no law against those positions being filled by the "faithful," so whether or not you're OK with that is up to you. But as with all the politically correct uproar following Carson's response, the devil is in the details, because the implication is that anyone not OK must be a xenophobe, an extremist, a bigot...
Since we're talking about religions, do you think there'd be such an uproar if Carson had opined he wouldn't feel comfortable with a chicken-sacrificing Santeria practitioner in the White House?
Hell, let's cut to the chase. Let's talk about an ancient and established religion, one that is recognized by the government, one with practitioners throughout the land, and one that involves itself in vigorous legal and outreach actions centered around all kinds of Constitutional issues, including, as a plus for those who value "progressive" causes, women's reproductive rights and same sex marriages.
I'm talking, of course, about Satanism.
I'm also talking about moral and logical consistency, which means if the "outraged" rival candidates and pundits are going to exhibit any, they have to agree that they could support a Satanist for president, and condemn as intolerant anyone who would venture that they are disqualified by "virtue" of their religion.
If what everyone in the field is professing truly reveals their unwavering principle that religion doesn't matter, they should have no problem publicly agreeing with consistent substitutions. Whether such a candidate would have a chance is not the point. And would the establishment candidates decry that as unacceptable intolerance?
Let's test some convictions, shall we? How would these alterations to on-the-record statements of conviction fly with the respective campaigns?

Ted Cruz: In trying to navigate a minefield, Sen. Cruz got it right that the Constitution prohibits religious tests as a matter of law, which, as we've already noted, is irrelevant to what Carson actually said. Lest anyone think this comparison for the sake of establishing consistency is insulting to Muslims or Satanists, and God forbid I'd ever want to do that, I'd presume to think the latter would agree that the candidates ought to extend to them comparable recognition to their beliefs. As for the Islamic community, I'll offer them the most respectful acknowledgement I can: Equal treatment.
So how about it, fellas? Can I put you on record as agreeing with and embracing this change?
And maybe getting some of your high ranking religious leaders to endorse it...?

Called Out on a Callout
A pet peeve is "readers" who aren't actually readers, and who glom on to a headline or an isolated highlight and presume that's enough to condemn the article and the writer as unprincipled betrayers and worse. That's the case with a callout in my "Rights Watch column, "I Will Not Comply," in both the print and digital edition of the September issue of GUNS.
Understand that I submit articles months in advance of the publication sent to subscribers and newsstands, and have absolutely no layout input or control. That said, let's look at context, which you can read for yourself in either the above-linked iPaper version or on the website preview copy:
“[T]he bottom line is the state must try to enforce the law,” The Hartford Courant railed, noting “scores of thousands of Connecticut residents failed to register their military-style assault weapons with state police.
“If you want to disobey the law, you should be prepared to face the consequences,” the editors, who had no personal skin in the enforcement game, proclaimed.Read the whole article. I was condemning that statement, not endorsing it.
Over the years I have consistently challenged those who advocate "Enforce existing gun laws" by asking if they would also urge the government to "Enforce existing Intolerable Acts."

NY Prosecutor Gun Ban Indicative of Wider Intent
You have to wonder about the type of person who values a job over freedom, and why such people gravitate toward government careers. As for the DA gun ban, while the initial impulse may be to laugh at the hoist-on-their-own-petard plight of anyone who is willingly a part of such tyranny, if allowed to stand you can bet the gun-grabbers will expand it to other government jobs, and turn their sights on the private sector if they can figure out how. When “progressives” ridicule gun owners parroting the tactical “no one wants to take your guns” talking point, they are doing what they do best — lying. [More]

Thing is, the truth is out there, and most who are aware of it won't even lift a finger to help spread it, let alone make calls or do anything beyond that. Besides, if the establishment Republicans do anything more than offer equivocal platitudes, Obama will shut down the government and blame them!
I hate to sound negative in the face of such good intentions, but who thinks calling McConnell and Boehner is going to be effective? I just wish I had something superior to offer. The best I can come up with is sending a message directly to the RNC, and let them know you will work to defeat every Republican who does not champion a one-line continuing resolution provision that "No funding shall be provided for bringing Syrians into the U.S. under any program."
What, you need those who prefer to dodge and hide for other priorities?
Thing is, for any outreach to work, they'd probably need to get a minimum of hundreds of thousands of such messages this week alone, with growing numbers after that. I doubt this blog post will even yield a dozen, and that's being wildly optimistic.
Where we find ourselves is the dead end Americans have allowed themselves to be led into every time they listened to "lesser of two evils" counsel from advocacy "leaders" with access and influence as a prime motivator to play along. This is the only possible conclusion to electing someone who "agrees with you 90% of the time" on the sanctity of the Bill of Rights, instead of taking them out as an example to all others, and repeating the process until those seeking office get it right.
For analogies, would you go out on patrol with someone who was only going to shoot you in the back 10% of the time? How many times would you let a spouse cheat on you? Why continue to partner with someone who betrays your trust, your freedom, your happiness, your life -- and your children?
We're told "politics is the art of the possible" by rice-bowlers who disparage those testing new limits of possibility as "extremists." We're told "the perfect is the enemy of the good" by those who would have us believe it's pragmatic to overlook some lies and betrayals as long as illusions are maintained.
Time's running out for all that. We are so screwed. And there ain't no easy way out.

What none of us should accept is this.

Something Must Be Done!
The Daily Caller picked up my latest GUNS Magazine "Rights Watch" column. [More]
Ignoring Bloomberg and Moms Demand Action, Kroger Continues Record Growth
So much for phony polls with loaded questions designed to produce predetermined propaganda campaign results. So much for social media, where the Bloomberg-funded and promoted hashtag #groceriesnotguns has only been used about a dozen times so far this month. Maybe having “snot” in their message wasn’t the best tactic. [More]Corporate extortion victims take note -- profits come from the grassroots, not from the AstroTurfers.
Taking Out Walls
Guns are part of American recreation and culture, and many people want them for home defense. My grandfather, of blessed memory, grew up in Pennsylvania and was part of that culture. He hunted regularly and belonged to the National Rifle Association. He told me he canceled his membership when the NRA insisted on the right to own assault weapons. He explained to me, "If you shoot an assault weapon in home defense, you'll take out a wall of your house. If you shoot a deer with it, there will be nothing left of the deer to bring home. It just doesn't make any sense." [More]He forgot the part about heat seeking ammunition cooking them from the inside...
With the resources available to learn the subject matter, there is really no excuse for this, other than Kapo Mezler is an ignorant, lazy and foolish man.
Wrong Again
Conservatives warn Ahmed Mohamed’s arrest was terrorist ‘setup’ to make Islamophobia seem racist [More]That's not what I warned at all, Travis Gettys, but you know that.
Ditto for characterizing a group that exists to uphold the oaths its members took to the Constitution as "anti-government" -- that can't be done except by Opposite Day Prozi liars.
Tell you what, though -- why don't you take my challenge and try to take that metal case with a Frankensteinian circuit board apparatus past the Secret Service and let us know how the experience turned out for you.
Opposition to Campus Carry Relies on Defenselessness and Offensive Stereotypes
People who behave responsibly don’t suddenly undergo a Jekyll-Hyde personality change by crossing an invisible property line. Someone who can be trusted to carry a gun across the street from a Florida university won’t suddenly morph into an agent of destruction simply by entering a campus. [More]You'd think even an academic would be smart enough to figure out defenselessness gives predators an advantage. You'd think.
Maybe there's something else going on here...
Some, But Not All
A federal appeals court has struck down as unconstitutional some of the District’s handgun registration laws, including requirements that gun owners re-register firearms every three years and are limited to registering only one pistol per month. [More]But:
The court did uphold other parts of the law, including the requirement that gun owners be fingerprinted and photographed.Because those obviously aren't infringements. Right?

Unsportsmanlike Conduct
He reportedly did not suffer serious injury, but did need 10 stitches after the game. [More]I think you guys just contradicted yourself there. Plus we can't know his attacker's name because he's a minor? And he was flagged for a personal foul but not ejected?
How is this not assault with a deadly weapon...?
Here's an update -- just as I suspected: Fritz Moncion, 18, is a good young man from a good family who was reacting to a cheating attack and racist oppression. besides, we all make mistakes.
He reminds me of me in High School, what with my part time $1.35/hr. job at Burger Chef handed to me solely because of privilege.

Now That's Funny
While Obama's leading the mob to tar anyone concerned about Clock IED Boy as an ignorant xenophobe, his guys go on full panic lockdown over a coffee mug.
About Last Night
I thought it was kind of cool seeing the debate take place where it did. I also appreciated CNN making it available to watch online -- which Faux did not when they hosted it.
I watched the opening act and the main event. Some general observations, certainly not all that I had, but all I have time to relate:
I watched the opening act and the main event. Some general observations, certainly not all that I had, but all I have time to relate:
- The Simi Valley crowd was typical of the types of Republicans I expected -- and not reflective of the type who are fed up and not going to take it any more.
- By having things set up to knock Trump out, he actually dominated the camera time. I don't think any committed minds were changed. As for undecideds, I'm not sure Trump helped himself with those, as he's really not as slickly articulate as most career politicians and talking heads.
- Pataki is a domestic enemy. I found his refusal to reciprocate on a pledge telling. Most of the others are stooges.
- There ARE stupid questions. Stupid answers, too.
- For all the talk about Republicans being the party of racists, it's instructive that the Democrats don't have a black candidate running this time out, that Carson is a front-runner, and that "tolerant progressives" dismiss such as race traitors as Uncle Toms.
- While they skirted around other effects of "immigration," no one addressed the fundamental question that will make all others topics debated irrelevant based on who will control things once the "pathway" is paved and widened: What evidence does any of them have -- that can be independently corroborated -- that amnesty policies will not result in an overwhelming anti-gun Democrat majority? Because I'd really love to have it proven this is not an issue of concern. I'd love if the facts made me need to sincerely apologize to Grover Norquist for ever doubting him.
A Burning Question
For me, it would be "Are we sure this was really done by a gun rights advocate?" [More]
