So it was church security and not Britney's personal bodyguard?

My favorite line from the story:

This is a church, not a concert.

I find this whole episode particularly hypocritical, because it occurred at the Bel Air Presbyterian Church.

Why?

Because of this:

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has a thirty year history of support for gun control legislation.

Last week, five former police officers claimed they were wrongfully fired by Hesse, who they said associated with a drug dealer, had sex in department headquarters and covered up cases of brutality.

We're the Only Ones Pointing Enough

An Omaha police officer has been fired for allegedly waving a gun at a man and his pregnant wife in traffic...

DeWitt denied involvement in the July 17 incident, but a police investigation determined that he had lied during his interview with internal affairs.

"The Only Ones" are capable of lying, too? Maybe they really are no better than everybody else...

We're the Only Ones Clean Enough

A retired Jersey City police officer apparently accidentally shot and killed himself yesterday morning while cleaning his gun at the city's emergency services unit, city officials said.

I weighed whether or not I wanted to post this--I'm not insensitive to the fact that real people are suffering a grievous loss right now. That said, the whole purpose of "The Only Ones" is to demonstrate that police and the politically connected do not automatically possess superior qualifications over the rest of us simply by virtue of employment or connections.

A Change of Heart?

I'd be interested to see just what doors the "minor language changes to the bill" open...

The Right Place

Duval County Public Defender Bill White questioned the safety of allowing judges to carry guns. He said he plans to talk to the chief judge about disarming the judges.

It's tough taking a side on this one. Yeah, I don't want judges to be "Only Ones." By the same token, the thought of indignant Billy boy here soiling himself and trying to strip an elite of power is kind of satisfying.

Britney Spears' weekend trip to church sparked controversy yesterday when a security guard pulled a gun on a photographer...

The paparazzo was detained and later released.

And the bodyguard wasn't arrested?

What's a gun control-endorsing celebrity doing with an armed escort, anyway? Nice double standard, Britney.

A Tangled Webb

Here are Google News links about the aide to Sen. Jim Webb who was arrested for carrying a loaded handgun into a Senate office building.

Some are pointing out the hypocrisy of politicians having guns while DC residents may not. True enough. I need to find Webb's position on gun rights for District residents before adding my two cents. I understand he's generally considered a "pro-gun Democrat," whatever that ultimately means.

This Day in History: March 27

Future President Thomas Jefferson is elected to the second Continental Congress on this day in 1775. Lessons Learned

Very early on, a rational discussion of this issue became all but impossible.

Yeah, people tend to react that way when they're attacked out of the blue for no reason other than you don't like them.

If you want a rational discussion, start one.

If you pick a fight and then get your sorry butt kicked, whining about being the injured party only trying to do a public good not only rings hollow, it sounds pathetic, self-serving and untrue.

The Best Interests of Everyone

It is in the best interests of everyone that a firearm be safely stored, unloaded and locked up, especially when children live in or visit the home.

"Everyone" would include intruders.

I'm sorry for this lady's loss. Her story is tragic. But it does not make her an expert on gun safety. If she was, she'd know there is no one-size-fits-all panacea that works for" everyone," and that is appropriate at all times and for all circumstances.

We're the Only Ones Sealed Enough

Lawyers for the city, responding to a request to unseal records of police surveillance leading up to the 2004 Republican convention in New York, say that the documents should remain secret because the news media will “fixate upon and sensationalize them,” hurting the city’s ability to defend itself in lawsuits over mass arrests.

Because if we can't spy on you and operate in secret, we might be held accountable to following some rules. As we've tried to show by example, such as by demanding unlimited access to records from, say, out of state gun shops, we're "The Only Ones" who make the rules. It's you non-"Only Ones" who are supposed to follow them...
