The March 2008 American Rifleman is out, and Wayne LaPierre's Standing Guard column, "DANGER! Gun-Free Zone" appears to decry the concept.
But I notice he focuses on the Omaha mall and the church in Colorado. I don't see anything specifically calling for guns on college campuses to deter "mass shootings" (is it still "too soon"?) or repudiating his earlier commitment to "gun free schools."
Why do you think that is?

It seems to me that the last time Wayne LaPierre spoke out strongly on the subject of gun rights in 1995, calling the agents of the BATF "jackbooted thugs," he encountered a backlash that affected him more deeply than we can imagine. Prez Bush the Elder publically resigned his NRA Life Membership, the NRA was banned from several Texas gun shows that year, and the cacophony from the leftists was deafening.
The fact that he was absolutely right notwithstanding, Wayne hasn't been the same man since.
Too bad.
Wayne has never been the 'same' man.
Why I think it is? Wayne's character.
I thought the same thing when I read it. I don't think LaPierre's even coming close to repudiating his gun-free zone stance.
Unfortunately.
