We're the Only Ones Shocked, Shocked Enough

Former Palm Valley police officer Ramon Martinez is seeking dismissal of the federal indictment against him, alleging that an ATF special agent reneged on assurances that he would not be arrested.

"I was shocked," Martinez, 37, said in an affidavit of his July arrest on charges that he and former Rio Hondo police officer Armando DueƱez bought firearm parts to build assault rifles.
Yeah. Damned BATFU elitists. Whatever happened to professional courtesy? How dare they expect him to obey the same edicts as non-"Only Ones"?

This clearly shows that the pressure on the lower ranking folks at ATF from the political bosses at the top is huge. This is a federal agency that is all about the numbers to get $$$ for their budgets and everything else can go to hell.

The originial Gestapo found the local authorities ... useful at times. Except for that, they were dung under their boots.
The local police wanted the prestige, and later cooperated because they were AFRAID. If some violation was needed, one would be found. Losing their job was the least that could happen. They had to accept the System when it was young and weak for it to grow. They did. Think "New Orleans."
