We're the Only Ones Humble Enough

A Humble police officer remains on administrative leave after authorities said he accidentally shot and killed a suspected car burglar at Deerbrook Mall. [More]
"Humble" or "Bumble"?

The Pistolero has more.

I'm told said officer decided to break the window with the muzzle end of his Glock, with his finger on the trigger.

I suspect he figured to bust the window by firing thru it.

We will see. This does not pass the smell test for 'accident'.

It's immaterial that the decedent's vehicle was by that time pretty well surrounded and going nowhere.

"The officers approached the suspected burglars on each side of their truck when the driver suddenly began backing toward them..."
in both directions at once, I assume.
OK, OK, if they were trapped between other parked cars they could both have been squeegeed, but WE go to the stripey hole for a long time for shooting people over PROPERTY.

In the '80s I once went to an art gallery with a friend and locked the keys in my car. We did the wire coathanger thing (it had been holding the rear bumper up) and eventually got the door open after about 15 minutes. People on their porches on the city street watched but didn't say or do anything.
As we pulled off, my somewhat loopy friend yelled out the window "WE GOT A CAR!"
I'm lucky to be alive. It was a more innocent time.
