Second Call

I have no first-hand knowledge about these folks, but this looks like something gun owners might want to check out. [Read]

I know statistically it's a numbers game where the odds are you will never need it, but if we took that attitude, we wouldn't be carrying guns in the first place.

I strongly believe that most people have no need to carry a gun. Their risks of being targeted as a victim of violent crime are very low.

Still, when they became available I obtained a carry permit. I knew at the time that I wasn't at high risk of crime. I lived in a safe neighborhood, I wasn't involved in drugs or gangs, I generally stayed away from trouble.

Then I came home from work one day and found my partner had invited an old friend to sleep on our couch. The friend was in hiding, having fled from an abusive ex-boyfriend who'd just walked away from a medium-security treatment center.

You might judge that your risks are very low. You might even be right in that judgement. But things can change very quickly.

Much too rich for my budget, but I'd rather buy insurance separately in any case.
