What does it say about a supposedly "free society" where statements from the government and the media are automatically suspect based on serial past departures from the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

That’s actually a deep question, David. Me, I think the fact that we reflexively apply extreme skepticism to anything spouted by politicians and the media because we are all aware of their long and public history of being pathological liars actually says good things about our “free society.”

It is when we swallow the BS unquestioningly (“So long as I am president, I will always protect your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms”) that we betray our freedoms.
