The Results are In

Once again, the Republicans have nominated several candidates who strongly embrace liberal Democrat values. [More]
Most supposedly "pro-gun" Republicans are devoid-of-principle frauds who make soothing noises to win elections but would betray us in a heartbeat if  the numbers said "Grab."

Having some experience in this issue, I have to ask -- does the Republican Party actually have the power to control who runs under their name... or are they forced to allow anyone to run on the Republican ticket who tells the Secretary of State he wants to register as a Republican, and presents the correct number of validated position signatures? In states like mine, the party cannot "allow" or "disallow" such candidates, they are forced upon the party.

I will point out in both these cases that there was another, better candidate competing for the Republican nomination, a choice not even given to some Republican voters. Perhaps he represented the party establishment's selection, perhaps not. (In Virginia's last election, some voters were offered no Republican candidates at all for some seats.)

Now, what would complete this analysis is examining which candidate the state party establishment threw their support and campaign funds behind. Here in McCain country, sadly, it's more likely to be the squish. Maybe OFF can comment on Oregon's GOP.

Ultimately, if there was a better and a worse candidate in the primary, and the worse won, the primary voters share a significant responsibility.
