I don't know whether either of you caught it this morning... Michael Bloomberg (NY, NY) and Cory Booker (Newark, NJ) on MTP talking about (among other things) guns.
David Gregory threw an adulatory softball question at Bloomberg, asking about a "major victory" he recently scored over the NRA (regarding the Thune Amendment). He then allowed Bloomberg to talk a bit about the organization he's a part of, "Mayors Against Illegal Guns."
I quote him there to make the point that *they* made the point of stressing the org is not against GUNS, per se, but is only against ILLEGAL GUNS... never once considering the fact that killing the Thune Amendment would be "exceeding MAIG's charter," so to speak, if it was *only* against illegal guns... since the Thune Amendment wasn't *about* letting [so-called] "illegal guns" cross state lines.
Then there was more of the standard BS fare regarding the [so-called] "gun show loophole," but the response to that has gotten to the point that it's all "copy-and-paste" now (that is, boilerplate).
The "killing the Thune Amendment" portion may or may not be article-worthy, but I thought I'd at least pass it along.

On Wednesday, the Ninth Circuit Court voted to review en banc a three-judge panel decision in April, extending the Second Amendment right to have a gun for personal self-defense so that it would restrict or nullify state, county and city gun control laws. The effect of that order, of course, was to vacate the panel decision. Thus, the disagreement between that panel and the Second and Seventh Circuits no longer exists... Me, I have a weight bench, treadmill and heavy bag down in the basement that I can ignore just fine on my own without paying any monthly fee and under the best security I can provide.
I just called several LA Fitness locations in the Mpls/Saint Paul metro and all confirmed that members are prohibited from bringing guns onto the property.I don't know if this is nationwide corporate policy or if this applied to the location in PA. And I've heard some say it wouldn't matter because you don't exercise with your gun tucked into the Spandex. In fairness, there's probably not enough of a demand to induce them to be responsible for maintaining and staffing a secure lockup area. Still, just knowing it's a "gun free zone" would be enough to let the killer, who was reportedly a member, know not to expect even the potential of resistance.

A Bexar County law enforcement officer is under investigation after he was arrested for driving drunk in his patrol car....Can you imagine if this "Only One" had succeeded?
MacCubbin had three passengers in his patrol car. Officers said he was driving recklessly with his emergency lights on and trying to pull cars over. [More]

Key Bank: The Name More Robbers are Relying On
A Seattle bank teller who knocked a would-be robber to the ground on Tuesday was fired from his job on Thursday. [More]That's because Key Bank would rather...but here, let me have others tell you, from a Google search for terms Key Bank robbed--and these are just from the first page of results:
Salt Lake City: "There was no weapon displayed or seen."
Burien: "No weapons were displayed and there were no injuries."
Seattle: "He did not display a weapon or imply that he had one."
Medford: "Bank employees reported that a lone male suspect entered the bank and presented a threatening demand note. No weapon was seen or displayed."
And Eugene: "A man entered the bank, approached the teller, and passed a note demanding cash. "
Ahh, but that's not always the case!
Williamsville: "Amherst police are looking for a bank robber who displayed a handgun...The robber, who did not display a weapon..."
Huh?
The "Authorized Journalists" seem more certain about Fort Collins: "The suspect entered the bank through the front door, approached a bank teller, brandished a black handgun..."
Now for our story about the guy getting fired, I suppose we could listen to the words of Seattle "Only One" Sgt. Sean Whitcomb, who says ""We always recommend citizens, including employees of institutions, be good witnesses."
Shall we meet a few "good witnesses"?
Here's one: "A pregnant teller shot in a bank robbery has lost the twins she was carrying..."
Here's another: "A teller was shot when three gunmen robbed a bank in southwest Miami-Dade County on Tuesday."
And another: "Doctors amputated the arm of a female bank teller shot by a robbery suspect last week in a bizarre holdup..."
No one is suggesting anyone incapable of resistance try it, although it is part of a physically and mentally capable adult's responsibilities to know how and have the means to protect themselves. If they don't take those responsibilities seriously, they may just end up helpless and at the mercy of a reptile.
But "just give him what he wants" is a risk too.
Point being, you don't KNOW what he wants. Anyone deranged and evil enough to threaten your life, which is what the creep did, using money as an excuse, is capable of doing anything.
It's not a matter of protecting the bank's money, it's a matter of either trusting that someone this untrustworthy and violent won't hurt you and obeying--or acting. At that point, you owe no loyalty to the idiot suits interested only in their bottom line. Screw what they want.
It's Key Bank's right as an at-will employer to fire the teller. It's my right as an investor to not patronize them because of it, and to not place myself at risk at an establishment which, based on results, might as well advertise to predators what an easy and compliant target they are.

Weapons of Mass Destruction
Included in North Carolina’s definition of a “weapon of mass death and destruction” is a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches in length. [More]Yep, there it is, GS-12-288.8.
But wait--what could they possibly mean by "Except as otherwise provided in this section," and whoever could they be referring to when they say "Persons exempted from the provisions of G.S. 14‑269 with respect to any activities lawfully engaged in while carrying out their duties"...?
Oh, they must mean subsection (b).
You know, "Only Ones."
Lord knows, what would compel you and me to wreak mass death and destruction would just be another tool in the law enforcement kit when placed in their more capable and morally superior hands.

Website of PA Gym Gunman Reveals Sick Misfit
For now, here's something I'm not seeing gaining much traction--yet. A website referred to (but not linked to) in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review account for the gunman, George Sodini. I see as I'm composing this The Pittsburgh Channel.com is confirming the website is real. [More]I did a special Gun Rights Examiner column this morning to provide a link.

One great Cause of the Waste and abuse of the public Arms is the want of a Sufficient number of Armourers to attend the Army.
