GRE Round Up for September 14
Check out the latest from my fellow GREs:
If Gun Owner Poses No Threat...
...he should never have been disarmed in the first damn place. [Read]
A Crisis of Confidence
The public, on the other hand, must recognise that to lose confidence in the police and dismiss their efforts outright in favour of their own ‘security’ methods and even vigilante justice, is to put the entire country in a vicious circle of criminality from which there may be no return. [More]So the only solution is to abdicate all personal responsibility and trust your life and freedom to the mercy of the "Only Ones"--and those directing them...
That's what it's all about, you know...
[Via Sam W]
As Intended
Senators, on the other hand, are elected by and represent all voters of their state. When the House considers a bill, individual members tend to base their votes primarily on how the bill might impact the people of their local district, while Senators tend to consider how the bill would impact the nation as a whole. This is just as the Founders intended. [More]No, the Founders intended Senators to be chosen by their state legislatures. But don't take my word for it.
Now if you want to get rid of a bad one, it's a whole lot harder and more expensive to overcome the urban-dominated vote than it is to keep your local rep in line and punish him for bad confirmations. Which is what those intent on subverting things were counting on.
If I ever need to know "about" something, I know where not to go. It figures this was written by a career government worker...
We're the Only Ones "Steel Plate Challenge" Enough
You know, on both sides of your jaw...steel plates...because we take anything less than instant obedience as a challenge...? Especially when we're armed, and we're adults and you're not...? [Read]

'I got stabbed - and people just stared!' Waitress' bloody tale after West Side subway attack [More]Fortunately, Mayor Bloomberg, accompanied by taxpayer-funded bodyguards, was unharmed in the incident.
A Stimulus Package
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex. [More]Stimulus, maybe. Economic? Not so much.
They shoot tax resisters, don't they?
So Far So Good
The Gun Guys
vs.
Reality
You know what we need? One of those violent headcase antis to go shoot up a park to prove their point.
You can bet they're just itching for the chance to do a "We told you so!" blood dance.

Fear of Schumer in Reid-Angle race is a cop-out
I call on NRA's Political Victory Fund to RELEASE THEIR CURRENT GRADES for Sharron Angle and Harry Reid, so that Nevada voters--and all gun owner "stakeholders" in that election--can use that as a guide.Today's Gun Rights Examiner column offers a "compromise" that even the non-absolutists ought to be able to support--at least, the honest ones.
I understand you don't want to give an endorsement, Mr. Cox--but post the grades. [More]

How about "No"?
But then, they'll need something a little more potent than the "Law Abiding Firearms Owners" for that.

Nice Rack
If you're into that sort of thing.
But I'm more interested in what's inside a person. That's why my plan is not to give away any potentially advantageous tactical information, such as where I am and what I'm armed with.
I'd just as soon a home intruder would never even know I was there until he woke up in hell and figured it out.

David - I wanted to alert you to the postponement of tomorrow’s “Firearms in Commerce” hearing. A Defense Appropriations Subcommittee hearing scheduled late Friday, coupled with a cloture vote on the Senate floor, both scheduled for the time this hearing would be underway, have posed multiple scheduling conflicts. I will keep you posted about rescheduling the hearing.

NYT on Lead Ammo Ban
I saw their pantie-wringing screed this morning and wasn't going to link to it.
I'll link to John Richardson's deconstruction instead.
Here's what I had to say.
As far as I'm concerned, they can try--if they want to create an entire unregulated metal commodity market in lead. That may be just the free market economic boost some of us could use.
I have more on the lead issue, but I sent it to the editor at GUNS Magazine a few days back for my "Rights Watch" column, and it'll be a few months before its' published.

GO-NH Candidate RKBA Ratings vs. The Gun Rights Questionnaire
Yesterday morning I received the GO-NH voter's guide, in which they've rated candidates on RKBA. Regular readers will recall that I spent 7+ months trying to get candidates to answer the Gun Rights Questionnaire and rating them. Some readers may even recall that GO-NH Prez Kopacz expressed an interest in being provided with the candidates' responses for rating purposes of their own. So much for that idea. I knew there was a problem when GO-NH wouldn't even link to my GRQ project.Carl Bussjaeger explains why he's annoyed. With details.
So I expected to be annoyed when the GO-NH guide came out. I am. [More]
Imagine that. "Pro-gun" candidates avoiding taking an unequivocal stand on the right of the people to keep and bear arms...and being rewarded anyway.
Ha-Ha Funny or Peculiar Funny?
Yet it’s only as the actor/director sits for an interview with the Star, talking about his new TIFF Gala premiere The Conspirator, that he suddenly realizes the irony of being both the pistol-packing Sundance Kid and an outspoken supporter of gun control. Now there's a deep thinker--assuming we believe him.
“It’s funny — that’s the first time it’s ever come to my mind,” said Redford, 74, smiling at the thought. [More]
But who am I to question the more enlightened? After all, when he talks about his new Lincoln assassination movie, he tells us it "is a story that very few, if any, know..."
"If any"?
Breaking news, Bob? There were co-conspirators who were arrested, tried and hanged? Aw, go on...
God, these smug, privileged dilettantes think highly of themselves, don't they? No wonder they see themselves as stewards of social justice and enlightenment for we, the little people.
Funny though, how Hollywood elites treat the help when it's their own interests on the line...
In Part Because
The National Rifle Association has long disputed the common claim that 90 percent of guns used in crimes in Mexico come from the U.S., in part, because of the fact that there are so many guns unaccounted for. [More]No, we dispute it because "the common claim" isn't true. Ain't no "in part" about it. And the only reason it's common is because there's no shortage of useful idiots with megaphones to parrot the meme.
Frightening, how "Authorized Journalists" have the reach to influence so many--even when it's demonstrable they don't know what the hell they're talking about.
Doppelganger
A firearms lobby group is calling for a register to stop what it describes as people unfit to hold firearm licences obtaining them. [More]You mean in addition to the Kapos?
"The National Rifle Association"...? (I suppose the suggestiveness of their url escapes them?)
Man, they sure bear an uncanny resemblance...
Why is anti-gun Mayor Bloomberg backing Harry Reid?
Do we really want to put our faith in a probable lame duck (due to age) "progressive" who has been scorned by "the gun lobby" and patronized by one of its most influential arch enemies? And one who uses an anti-gun "litmus test" for loyalty at that? [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at how the right motivation affects "loyalty"--especially when the desire for power and control over others is a factor.
Or it could be I'm just a bitter cynic, and "progressive" political leaders will not waver from firm principles and their only desire--to selflessly serve their country.
Our most politically influential "gun rights leaders" are gambling on the latter. How about you?

Children's Hospital

"First, I would ask whether or not you really need a gun in your house," Dr. Gittelman says. "If you choose to own a gun, it should be stored unloaded in a locked cabinet or drawer. The ammunition should be stored separately – in a different, locked location. And you need to be sure your children do not have access to the keys." [Read]I dunno, Doc--think that would have helped this medical professional? Do you think he needed one? And should he have given a head start advantage to the reptiles?
Don't you people have a baby to kill or something?
Fires Burn Throughout Detroit
I read this and my first thought was the subhead should read "Hundreds of Dollars in Property Damage."
Then coincidentally, these other Motor City links came to my attention:
"90-year-old testifies about rape": Every once in a while I am compelled to rethink my position on crucifixion. I'm thinking lined up on the side of the highway, with some of those signs that give Ballsy Dave the vapors...
"Charges aren't 1st ones for Detroit cop": Maybe not crucifixion for this one, but a good scourging might be in order...

Here's more on these COLFO kapos (no, the "nz" in their url stands for "New Zealand"--what did YOU think it stood for?):
COLFO recognises the need for sensible firearms legislation capable of achieving logical goalsPrags gone wild. Do you really need to see more?
COLFO believes that control of firearms should rest with the Police, not with Governments. The Police have a record of integrity and expertise in the administration of firearms controls and COLFO believes that this situation should continue.
And naturally:
COLFO is a member of the...World Forum for the Future of Shooting Sports.Hey, I remember those guys.
Lemme know when you guys down there start up COUFO. I'd love to write up something positive.

How do YOU feel about 'No guns for Jews'?
These are pretty serious and controversial charges for most of the public to be hearing. Those of us who have supported JPFO's work in the past know that pulling punches is not Executive Director Aaron Zelman's style. He knows--and has documented too many times over the years--that this business of citizen disarmament is far too serious, with far too evil ultimate consequences, to not speak candidly and plainly.Today's Gun Rights Examiner column presents something we all need to see and share.
The memory of the victims of the past demands it. [More]
