Like a Broken Record

Agenda much?

“The records missing from our background check system create unacceptable risks to public safety,” said Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, a leader in addressing gun violence following last year’s mass shooting in a city entertainment district that killed nine and wounded more than two dozen. [More]

How many incidents of "gun violence" can this control freakette represented as a "leader" take credit for deterring? More than, say, any one of the untold numbers of average citizens who can claim DGUs without firing a shot?

As an aside, here is how Dave Yost answered my candidate questionnaire several years back.

Gamechanger?

Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. issued an Order on Friday evening requiring all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties to keep all ballots received after 8:00 p.m. on November 3 “in a secure, safe, sealed container separated from other voted ballots” and that “if counted, be counted separately.” [More]

A comment poster over at Wirecutter's shared a link that, if accurate (and I confess I do not have the knowledge to weigh in with an informed opinion) could blow away the prevailing narrative. What we need is someone who DOES have an informed opinion.

Kathy Boockvar says "Nothing to see here," but then again, she's hardly a disinterested party.

As an aside, part of me has thought even if the voter fraud we've been talking about could be proven in the courts, the establishment would be terrified to release the information because furious Democrat riots would rip the country apart and require a martial law response.

And here's a fun fact: A search for the term "Alito" yields no hits on this development on CNN.

Citizen Red

Look what just showed up on my radar (posted two years ago):

Assailing the upcoming March for Our Lives, Codrea went after Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg, attempting to portray him as a tool of a totalitarian conspiracy as opposed to a survivor of gun violence speaking from authentic, lived experience. “To minimize the role of the totalitarian lobby’s newest citizen disarmament rock star to that of ‘survivor’ is to mask the well-organized, well-funded and well-connected interests bankrolling the March for Our Lives,” Codrea wrote. Incredibly, for Codrea and other far-right gun absolutists, the blood is on the hands of Hogg and former Attorney General Eric Holder — another bogeyman of the far right — not the NRA. “They want — they need — vulnerable school children,” Codrea wrote. “They want our guns. And they want men with guns in the employ of the powers behind them to execute their demands, even if it means more bloodbaths.”

I'm not seeing where any of that is, you know, wrong.

And who says anyone who knows the score wants to "debate" with useful idiots? Or move left to what someone who associates that with "white extremism," and considers the Kochs as paragons of conservatism, calls "the center"?

Think Globally, Act Locally

Right now and going forward, it’s the local level battles for gun rights that need to play the part. Town, city, county and state level battles and elections is how you take on a Biden/Harris administration’s inevitable gun grabbing attempt. [More]

That's always been important, but it will have no effect on federal mandates. When the antis demand "home rule," it's never about relaxing local restrictions, it's always about tightening them because they mean to rule your home. Plus, too many state-level groups -- like all of them -- are afraid to even mention the single greatest threat, let alone do anything about it.

I'm afraid we are entering an era where more gun owners are going to need to become committed to a new paradigm. By all means, your immediate AO is the one that can immediately hurt you, but the battle really is on all fronts, and that means we need to be mindful of all options and all chairs.

Stop the Steal

I'm getting so many story tips on the election, I can't possibly keep up with them all via individual posts, so for today, I'm going to consolidate them all in one, and add to it as new ones I think are relevant and non-repetitive come in (and note some were already posted on previous days).

Take them all with a shaker of salt. There will be plenty of times when the realities of the various state processes aren't understood. It's no surprise the DSM is not only in the tank for Biden but also that most of the "reporters" posing as authoritative don't know what the hell they're talking about and/or deliberately withhold information and spread [m/d]isinformation.

Ditto, some from the "right-wing conspiracy" side. As much as I'd love to believe it, I can't prove this is all some grand Trump-engineered 3D chess trap with secret ballot "watermarks" and so far, I haven't seen anyone else prove it either, or explain how such supply access for Democrat-controlled states would have been accomplished in secret -- my guess is the other side is feeding them easily disprovable claims to discredit their "good" information, and they will try to make "conservatives" falling for it THE story. I may be wrong, but I don't think so.

My bottom line: I believe the Dems are trying to steal it and there is evidence of suddenly-materialized ballots, late submissions, observers being blocked, judges with agendas, manipulative media, etc., and that this is all going to end up in front of the Supreme Court, where we will see exactly what John Roberts will dare. And I cannot vouch for the accuracy and reliability of anything listed below, so caveat emptor:

This will be updated if I have the time and think the new additions offer significant additional insights. It took me over an hour to put this together and I need to focus now on other priorities.

I have mixed feelings about whether the law should be changed in general because of a very specific and rare event, partly because school attendance is compulsory, and also because unless the "curiosity" is the result of something the public really needs and deserves to know about, there will always be those ready to exploit and abuse.

A Matter of Reaction Time

Philadelphia cops release footage of the moment knife-wielding Walter Wallace Jr. rushed at two cops during 'mental health episode' before being shot dead - sparking riots [More]

Let's review the bidding:

Survival tip: If an officer orders you to put down a knife and you want to live, either be closer than 21 feet or listen to the man. If he's already drawn down on you, adjust for reality. You can't get a "social justice" law firm to sue over real or perceived rights violations during a police encounter if you're not around to pursue them.

True, you can't expect a person having a psychotic episode to behave rationally, which may explain why that appeal won't work on those looking for any excuse to loot and destroy under mob protection, but it might be helpful to find an approachable "community leader," put him through a Tueller simulation and have him spread the word.

Crazy Like a Fox

Furious Donald Trump called Rupert Murdoch to scream at him after Fox called Arizona for Joe Biden - but the media mogul refused to back down [More]
The reason this is being widely shared, aside from another chance to diss a president they hate, is the DSM finds it advantageous to label Fox news as "conservative," meaning any news source to the "right" of them can be disparaged as "extremist. What's deliberately left unsaid in contemporary "reports" is that Murdoch is a "Never Trumper" who actually preferred Hillary Clinton (and his sons are even more "progressive.") Like all useful idiots, once their purpose has been served they become disposable.

So look for Fox News to push even more to the left so the center and the goalposts are once again moved. You have to wonder how long Tucker Carlson's got with them.

The Other Side

Yesterday. What a day.

We arrived to open the polling place at 5:30 a.m. For whatever reasons, and as usually happens, I was operating on around three hours of sleep. To compound matters, my back, which goes out on me on occasion, decided yesterday would be a fine day to seize up painfully several times as a protest against all that leaf raking I've been doing of late. And on top of that, only one other woman who worked the polls with me last time had returned -- most of the poll workers were new, probably because the old crew were high-COVID risk age and decided to sit this one out, so a lot of learning on the job had to happen.

Voters were lined up when we opened things up to them as required at 6:30. The flow was steady and grew throughout the morning. We were rushing to accommodate everything, particularly with the new COVID procedures requiring sanitizing everything down for each voter on check-in, and in the booths after each use. A lot of people, much more than I've usually seen, came in during the morning, and we all scrambled to make sure everyone was processed through and waits were minimized.

Throughout it all though, there were no real glitches or problems we were not able to resolve, and no incidents of hostility or even inappropriate conduct worth mentioning. What surprised me was how things slowed down after 5:00 p.m. We were all expecting an after-work rush that never came, and things only slowed down after that. I guess all that absentee and early voting, and the morning rush, meant people were serious about making sure their votes counted.

In our last hour, waiting to close out at 7:30, I think maybe three voters showed up and the big challenge for me was to keep from dozing off. We closed down with a few challenges, but by following the checklists managed to get out in under an hour.

I had looked forward all day to getting home and rewarding myself by going out to the porch with a cigar and two fingers of the good stuff, turning on the space heater, and catching another episode of a streamed series I'm watching. Maybe tonight. I barely had the energy to put myself to bed.

Ohio results were mixed. Big picture:  Trump took the day. Closer to home, a wretched gun-grabber was re-elected to the state assembly -- in fairness, his opponent really didn't do much to put fire in any bellies other than having an "R" after her name.

And now we wait for national results to see if continued volunteering to work the system will be something I still care to do, or if its integrity no longer matters because the outcome will be a foregone conclusion.
