Calling guns in bars a "recipe for disaster," the state's police chiefs have pleaded with Gov. Bob McDonnell to veto legislation that would ease Virginia's concealed weapon laws.

Virginia Beach police Chief Jake Jacocks Jr. sent a letter to McDonnell last week on behalf of the state association of chiefs comparing the combination of firearms and alcohol with drinking and driving. [More]

Well, of course he did. Because the recipe doesn't call for putting him in the same pot:

Hey, we all know they can handle alcohol better than us, right? It goes with the general superiority?

Just ask Anthony Abbate (if you dare to step in and drag him off that girl half his size). Or since we're talking Virginia establishments and exempting feds, too, why not see what Joseph Armento has to say?

Y'know, if we're really serious about this, we'd best just ban guns in the home, where many gun owners also keep beer, wine and liquor, where emotions are known to run high in the course of daily life, and where many incidents of hidden domestic violence occur! For the children! "Only Ones" exempted, of course.

Maybe if they veto this, the governor and the chiefs can share a few laughs at their subjects over some drinks. Then go out in the parking lot and maybe see who's tougher.

Gun Magazines Banned by Military in Iraq?

Can anyone confirm this? I sent the link to my editor at GUNS Magazine and asked if he's heard anything, and will advise if he has.

If it turns out to be more than a misunderstanding, the next step will be to find out who issues such a ridiculous and offensive directive and turn up the heat.

She believes that domestic violence can be stopped, but says that the law is not doing enough to protect women from "very predictable, very preventable types of violence."[More]

If you can predict it, why wouldn't you take personal measures to prevent it, even if that "law" (which has no obligation to protect you) says you're not allowed to?

Who's responsibility does "expert on domestic violence" Diana Rosenfeld think it is, and if some enraged male with twice her upper body strength decided it was "let's get physical" time, exactly what kind of expertise would she be able to demonstrate?

Yeah, those are pretty expert howls there. And the blubbering, crying, pleading...? First rate! You sure have me convinced you're in absolute terror and agony...

And best of all, no nasty guns that are only designed to kill people...think how that will please Paul Helmke!

Those of you inclined to leave comments on such sites, do remind the readership of all those in uniform who also prove untrustworthy--having that kind of ammo is one of the reasons I maintain the archive.

I wonder if this guy is really what he seems? I want information on him--who is he? Does anybody know him? How long has he been involved, or is he? Any chance this is deliberate?

We're the Only Ones Not Feeling Good Enough

Because everyone knows "crime guns" are imbued with a pure evil that differentiates them from regular guns.

Because the laws we must abide by in order to effect firearm transfers to individuals just aren't exclusive enough to our liking.

Because we can be trusted with them and you can't be.

Because we're the "Only Ones."
