So Much for the Disadvantage of Being Honest

The NRA should come out of their bunker and explain themselves.
Huh? I thought Bryan Miller said the truth was on his side.

Why are you associating Mike Vanderboegh's opinions with NRA? The folks who champion their legislative approach have been Mike's most vehement critics in the gun blogosphere.

So what's with lying to the world that this somehow has NRA sanction?

Can't We All Get Along?

"I'M NOT anti-gun," insists Max Nacheman, the 26-year-old director of CeaseFirePA. [More]
No, of course not. Notice how he doesn't tell us what he's for in terms of gun rights?  And "Authorized Journalist" Julie Shaw doesn't ask?

Funny, he doesn't mention people who would be exempt from his "stolen gun reporting" centerpiece...because if we looked at that too closely, the entire "illegal guns" curtain they're hiding behind might be ripped down.

Say, whatever happened to ol' whatsisname from CeaseFirePA...?  You know, that "Esp. the Nigers" embarrassment they couldn't run away from fast enough?

I haven't been paying attention to them of late, so perhaps some Keystone Stater who has can fill us in on their latest doings.  It looks like they got this slick young Hillary apparatchik to do the old Grima Wormtongue "common sense anti-violence gun safety" sleight of mind instead of the clumsier and unsuccessful frontal assault bellowing Bryan Miller employed with such ham-handed tactical ineptness...

Excellent Job, Meleanie!

You did great.

Somebody ought to ask Lynne Doyle if she were being attacked, of the four people on her panel, where Bryan Miller would rate in terms of who she'd want by her side.

Quote of the Year

"In the battle of ideas with the gun lobby, we're at a constant disadvantage because we're honest."
Thanks, Bryan Miller. I needed a good laugh.

But seriously, folks, if it turns out to be true that NRA paid her to spy--and I'm not convinced it is, and I'm further not convinced it wouldn't be justified under my any chair in a bar fight rules of engagement--it becomes legitimate to ask and debate what hurts our public image more: "Extreme activism" letters to the editor, or "pragmatic" tactics like this?

Crazy About Guns

This year's uptick in buyers must reflect some new gun owners, but if past surveys are a good guide, surely most of these buyers are repeat buyers. This means that the well-armed are probably getting better-armed—a point none of the recent news stories makes.
That's one of the points Bryan Miller tried to make so unskillfully and deceptively a few days back.

Here's the thing: So what?

The hard core, the committed, the trained just got better armed and resupplied.

Ponder that.

Are Antis Truly This Clueless?

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli used the incident to take a strong position in favor of the right of lawful citizens to carry guns and use them in self defense.

Naturally, Bryan Miller would have liked to have seen the robbery succeed.

And how about the mental giant who said this?
I just don't agree with the idea that it's right for people to get guns to defend themselves, because then the bad guys have guns, the good guys have guns and then everybody's just shooting at each other.

Yeah, I'll be basing my choices on that informed opinion...

What amazes me is these geese give no hint they're aware of how idiotic they sound. It's like they actually believe it.

Only in New Jersey

Trying to reduce gun crime by rationing firearms to law abiding citizens is a little like trying to reduce stabbings by rationing steak knives to restaurant goers, which is why the Court found the ordinance to be irrational. The criminal misuse of any lawful product is not a function of the number of units sold to honest citizens; it's a function of how effectively society deals with those who misuse them.

Yeah, but you're assuming this issue will be decided based on rationality and morality.

I don't mean to sound cynical--this guy makes some great points. But like he says, "Only in New Jersey."

And when this has no effect whatsoever, watch Bryan Miller scream for more.

Rally Demands Tighter PA. Gun Laws

"Normalcy in Camden will continue to be threatened as long as illegal guns continue to flow into the city" from Philadelphia, said Bryan Miller, executive director of Ceasefire N.J.

From Philadelphia?

Wait a minute...I distinctly remember NRA promising that Project Exile and enforcing existing gun laws would work the same miracle there as it had in Richmond.

Uh...never mind.

More Treason From the Birthplace of Liberty

Restrict the flow of legal weapons, and the number of guns circulating illegally on city streets would decline. "We need to go after traffickers who have highly developed businesses... just like selling hotdogs," says Bryan Miller of Ceasefire New Jersey, which lobbies for gun safety.

For all the talk of enforcing existing gun laws, those statutes have not kept illegal guns out of the hands of criminals. So lawmakers need to enact the one-handgun-a-month proposal being championed by Rep. John Myers and Sen. LeAnna M. Washington, both Philadelphia Democrats. Limiting legal handgun purchases - not hunting rifles - to a dozen per year would preserve gun owners' rights, while seriously hampering gun traffickers.

Wait a minute--I thought Philadelphia wasn't supposed to have any more crime. I thought "enforcing existing gun laws" was the winning strategy.

Gee, maybe you can't get in bed with your enemies. Maybe compromise and appeasement don't work, and they'll always be coming back at your throat.

Note this is coming from Philadelphia, home of Independence Hall (now a UN World Heritage Site). Disarming the Constitutional militia ought to be prosecutable as an act of treason.

And note the divide-and-conquer tactic pitting hunters against handgun owners--your rifles are OK--we're just going after those other guys.

For now.
