Mukasey for AG?

President Bush plans to choose Michael B. Mukasey, a former federal judge who was nominated to the bench by Ronald Reagan, to replace Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Republicans close to the process told The Politico.

How does this bode for gun owners? At this point, I don't have anything but inferences--look for more to come to light in the coming days.

First, we know the guy is for Giuliani. A Constitutionalist who believes in the Bill of Rights could not be.

More troubling is this guy who wanted him on the Supreme Court and/or as AG:

In June 2003, Democratic New York Senator Charles Schumer submitted Mukasey's name, along with four other Republicans or Republican appointees, as a suggestion for President George W. Bush to consider for nomination to the Supreme Court. On the March 18, 2007, episode of Meet the Press, Schumer again suggested Mukasey as a potential Attorney General nominee who, "by [his] reputation and character, shows that [he] put rule of law first."

I haven't had time to look into the record of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York as it pertains to guns, or what Judge Mukasey's history is--I'm hoping someone on our side with legal expertise will weigh in and give us all some insights.

Online Gun Sale Opportunity for PMSNBC to Go Into PSH Over RKBA

A Collier County man is having second thoughts about selling his AK-47 online because of the buyers the rifle has attracted this week. He says most of the people that responded to his Craigslist.org posting are convicted felons.

"Jeremy's" story stinks, and I am left wondering about his identity, his sympathies and his motives. I note the quoted dealer runs buyers through NICS, so it looks like this is more PSH from PMSNBC. And I find it curious the denied checks haven't resulted in a BATFU response for a federal felony by prohibited persons--I guess they're just too busy hounding Red's.

But re-reading this, it looks like the dealer was just someone the "reporter" picked to interview--Jeremy says "he does a background check on every person." Without access to NICS, how would he do that? And why does this article deliberately obfuscate the realtionship between "Jeremy" and the dealer?

But aside from that, I just did a cursory search on CraigsList and couldn't find a gun being advertised--albeit I only looked for a few minutes. I wonder why the "authorized journalist" didn't see fit to mention CraigsList's "Prohibited or Restricted Items Policy":

Weapons and related items, including firearms, disguised, undetectable or switchblade knives, martial arts weapons, sniper scopes, silencers, ammunition, large capacity magazines, BB guns, tear gas or stun guns.

I seriously doubt that "Jeremy" had time to remove his listing as he claims. My guess is, it was flagged and deleted before he would have had the chance, and they probably have his IP blocked from further posting. That is, if he really did so in the first place, and thus far, I see no reason to give him any credence.

You don't think a fair and balanced mainstream establishment news outlet might be pushing an agenda disguised as journalism, do you?

We're the Only Ones Taking Back Enough

Cosmos Onyigbo bought a gun from an acquaintance at a Police station and gets arrested less than five minutes later for unlawful possession of firearms.

"The Only Ones" giveth, "The Only Ones" taketh away.

Funny--no mention of what became of the deposit collateral. But they've got you sobbing and terrified and ready to give them anything they want, Cosmo, and that's the important thing.

And here's "'The Only Ones' Philosophy" in a nutshell:

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Paul Iseghohi while addressing journalists on the issue said it was unimaginable for someone of his status to acquire a gun without any desire to use it for negative purpose.

It works that way here, too, regardless of the subterfuges those who want other human beings disarmed employ. Some animals are more equal than others, and they intend to keep it that way.

Linda Mah Won't Be Safe Period

Instead of those namby-pamby ``Give me five'' requests where all the kids are expected to clap, raise their hands and shut their traps, just let a teacher fire a round into the florescent lights. That will get the little brats' attention.

Linda Mah thinks she's clever and authoritative.

She's neither.

And it's "fluorescent" unless the lights are blossoming.

I'm surprised they caught her, what with the rest of the department out at Hooters...

Federal Flunkies

Ten years after Congress ordered federal agencies to have outside auditors review their books, neither the Defense Department nor the newer Department of Homeland Security has met even basic accounting requirements, leaving them vulnerable to waste, fraud and abuse.

Oooh...ooohhh...audit BATFU next...audit BATFU next...

Seriously, this is obscene. The same administration that's trying to destroy a family business over minor paperwork glitches like putting "Y" or "N" on a form instead of "Yes" or "No" doesn't have the needed controls in place to run a hotdog stand--and these are the "authorities" we look to to safeguard nothing less than the physical security of the nation--and the same authorities who bring the hammer down on "We the People" when some opt to assume responsibility for their own security.

The system is insane.

Clayton Cramer to Appear at Red's

As I reported earlier we will be premiering David T. Hardy's Documentary In Search of the Second Amendment in Twin Falls. Hardy has spent 4 years working on this documentary and it is a must see.

On October 3rd, there will be a presentation before the film by historian Clayton Cramer, who is the author of the book Armed America and also appears in the film.

I hope Ryan has notified the local press to come down and cover this. If the attendance is not overflow/SRO, I'd sure like to know why not.

Is the gun store you patronize a leader in protecting the rights of the communities they serve, or merely a merchant? If the latter, have you and your shooting friends taken the time to approach and educate them on the real need for gun shops to supply freedom information as well as freedom tools?

Nothing will change unless we take it upon ourselves to change things. I hope that's not news to anybody.

Great "objective reporting" there, "Staff Writer" Carolyn Salazar. You quote the prosecutors, skim convenient data from a BATFU slide show (but omit the inconvenient factoid that "average time-to-crime" in New Jersey is 11.52 years), work in a sound bite from a local citizen disarmament zealot, and even point to Mayor Bloomberg's illegal strong arm tactics as the way to achieve an agenda. Your readers would never know there are competing arguments, so you've served the cause well.

You ought to make "Senior Authorized Journalist" in no time.

Mixed Messages

Former Run-DMC star Darryl McDaniels has created an award show to challenge negative perceptions of hip-hop...

McDaniels said the inclusion of "gangster rapper" Snoop Dogg on the bill did not detract from the awards' message....

"It's OK to make a record about a gun, but if you make a record about a gun, you gotta make a record about not using a gun," he said.

A Northside Independent School District police officer shot himself and then lied to San Antonio police about how he suffered the gunshot wounds, police officials said.

That'll Stop "Knife Crimes," Eh?

Ontario Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty said Wednesday that he does not want to see the provinces' schools resort to installing metal detectors and having uniformed security officers patrol the halls in the wake of Tuesday's fatal stabbing at a Toronto high school...

Instead, he said, Ontario needs to distinguish itself from the United States by imposing an outright ban on hand guns.

Cause...effect...cause...effect...

Nah. But that's OK, none of the "authorized journalists" caught it. One can only wonder how many of McGuinty's constituents did.

And then we have the "opposition," blaming the problem on government not having enough money to redistribute.
