Utah Gun Rights Activists Join Forces With the Antis???

SEE UPDATE FOR A STATEMENT OF CORRECTION
Utah's gun rights activists are breaking ranks with the National Rifle Association for the first time in recent memory and instead are joining forces with gun-control advocates such as Sen. Scott McCoy. [More]
Well, that doesn't sound good. Some are asking whether the locals are throwing gun owners under the bus.

As always, the devil is in the details, and if we don't consider those details, we're likely to draw skewed conclusions:
SB 96 would completely eliminate the issuance of Utah concealed-weapon permits to non-Utah residents...SB 96 would also change "concealed weapon" (the term that’s used in the current law) to "concealed firearm", which means that a permit-holder would no longer be able to carry other types of concealed weapons...SB 96 could also be interpreted to restrict you to carrying only one firearm. Which means that you couldn’t carry a backup gun...
I don't care about the retired "Only One" provision. I think they should eat off the same plate as the rest of us.

Look, I really don't care about permits, either. I post this because I see a lining up in two camps, and I see the highest volume coming from the most influential one--that championing the Fairfax agenda. I just think it's important that gun owners have access to all sides of the argument before making up their minds.

This isn't the first time a bill with dangerous repercussions was being pushed through over the objections of local activists. Is it?

UPDATE:

While the principle of looking at all details still applies, I will note I did not.

The newspaper article refers to HB 204.

Hurrying through, which is no excuse, the GoUtah! alert I thought was relevant referred to SB 96.

They're two different bills--the House bill dealing with instructors, the Senate bill dealing with permitees.

I see nothing on the GoUtah! site to flesh out further details for their position. That doesn't change my bottom line--we need to know what it is and why before deciding whether or not we agree with them.

Anyway, I apologize for the confusion this may have caused. Corrections are never fun.

A Big Win

A big win in court today for Danladi Moore. The Norfolk P.D./city sham has failed. The Judge has thrown the case and the charges will be dismissed. They paid him $10,000 for the first tyrannical arrest, let’s see what they pay for this one. You would think the citizens of Norfolk, Virginia would get tired of seeing this kind of thug behavior from their cops. Moreover, you would think they would get tired of paying out taxpayer dollars for absolutely tyrant behavior by the police…repeatedly. [More]

Why Bloggers are Better than Authorized Journalists

It's because we bring you information the mainstream media will not. At least that's an argument I use. I may have to modify that.

Yesterday, I told you about an interview with Mike Vanderboegh appearing in the Feb. 15 issue of Gun Week. Like him and agree with him or not, that is information that should be of interest to activist gun owners. The absence of reporting on this from most quarters--particularly those quick to criticize and misrepresent Mike's positions--speaks for itself.

A Show of Force in Boise

Metro Violent Crimes Task Force...A 10-agency task force...The FBI, along with nine other agencies...A Blackhawk helicopter hovered overhead as officers in bulletproof vests and Kevlar helmets stormed the home...[More]
All for one guy? Yeah, but one who "was allegedly selling illegal guns from his home."

Per Avg Joe, who says:
Little history: This is a training raid of force, black hawk the whole nine yards. A total of 10 LE agencies counting the FBI who seemingly was in charge of the raid. This was way, way, way over kill but it gets these groups working together because they know this sh** is going to be going n the coming future.

History: I believe I sent you a line where something like crazy like 750 cops, medical folks and who knows used the Boise Town Mall after hours as a training area. They used full auto toy guns. This was said to be a training in case some idiot/s starting shooting up the place. First off if people are pinned down but whack jobs, the last thing the cops need to be shooting are full autos. What my intel tells me is that was training to run as many as 25 raids at the same time from the same command post. I'm telling you David, if you take what just happened in New Orleans within the last week and this raid. You have these people getting ready to do some very heavy sh**. They are putting the pieces in place one by one and too many people are sleeping as it happens.

This Day in History: February 10

After every attempt to stop the progress of the Small Pox, I found that it gained such head among the Southern Troops, that there was no possible way of saving the lives of most of those who had not had it, but by introducing innoculation generally. The Physicians are now making the proper preparation to innoculate all at the several Posts in this Quarter, and Doctor Shippen will innoculate all the Recruits, that have not had the disorder, as fast as they come into Philadelphia. They will loose no time by this Operation, as they will go thro', while their Cloathing, Arms and Accoutrements are preparing. That the Army may be kept as clear as possible, of this terrible disorder, I have recommended it to every State, which is to send Troops to the Army in this Department, immediately to begin upon the innoculation of their Recruits and to continue till they have gone thro' the whole; by these means very few will be down at a time, and of those, many will be fit for duty (should the occasion be pressing) the whole time. WHEREAS, present levels of gun violence in the United States are far higher than in nations which regulate gun purchases more stringently,

(1) The renewal of the ban on sale or purchase of assault weapons (making the ban permanent); and

(2) The enactment of laws at all levels of government to make it harder for those with diminished mental capacity or criminal intent firearms either legally or illegally. [sic]

Yeah, but if Homeland Security decides we need to just leave it on and record everybody everywhere, well, if you're not doing anything wrong, what have you got to hide?

Any doubts how many of the cud-chewers would go right along with this? Still, it could also be used to provide an alibi...

But it'll be a moot point anyway, as soon as we all get those Tommy Thompson implants.

We're the Only Ones Safely Storing Enough

A gun used to kill a woman last month on the Far West Side belonged to a Columbus police sergeant, and investigators are trying to figure out how the murder suspect got it.

Sgt. Douglas Williams, a 31-year police veteran who works in the Strategic Response Bureau, has told homicide investigators that he didn't realize the gun was missing until detectives asked him about it. [More]

See, this is why we should have never stopped suing gun manufacturers, and why we need registration, ammunition accountability, no gun show loophole... And if this can happen to a trained "Only One," why just imagine how dangerous it is trusting you and me with such a dangerous instrument of death.

Sheila Dixon's Prestidigitation

What a brilliant illusion. Surrounded by police, she creates a solid-looking mirage of standing on the side of law and order. And by centering her act on the emotionally charged issue of guns in the community, she keeps the audience's rapt attention focused right where she wants it--and away from where she does not. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column explains the secrets behind an illusion performed by a Mayor Against (Your) Guns.

We also have a new GRE in Denver.

I ask all WarOnGuns regulars to please share its link far and wide.

You are to endeavour, as much as possible, to harrass and annoy the Enemy by keeping Scouting parties constantly (or as frequently as possible) around their Quarters. [More]

We're the Only Ones Ridiculing Enough

An OCSD Employee calls those speaking at the 11-18-08 BOS meeting ‘idiots’...

An OCSD Employee ridicules a speaker... [More]
Hey, they don't have to respect you or your rights. That's why they're "Only Ones."
No doubt just a few bad apples, right? Which is why they dare show such unmasked insolence in a public venue...

And why they feel free to man the spy cameras...

We're all clear on why Sandy wants to make sure you're unarmed, right...?

See Obama in His Followers..

You can help build our gallery of faces from people who see a part of President Barack Obama in themselves. [More]
It's idol worship, plain and simple.

Why am I thinking of a repeat along the lines of the Million Moon March where we can submit pictures where we see Obama in his followers...? Go ahead and save this picture and send it to them. Just make up an address and phone number.

OFF on Holder

This man will now be in charge of prosecuting gun owners. [More]
Yep.

A bit of apologia for NRA's transparent manipulation on this is that the time to oppose Holder was in November.

Cute. I imagine some of the dimmer followers actually have fallen for that.

The time to oppose attacks on our rights is before during and after. Can you imagine anyone expecting credibility if you substituted an issue besides gun rights? The time to oppose a pro-slavery AG was in November?

Good grief.

If we're going to be consistent, I'd expect to see that same nonsense repeated when the "assault weapon" ban gets put on the front burner.

Hey, if you didn't want it, you should have voted for McCain. You know, the guy who voted for Holder...
