Loyalty Rewards
In the days that followed, Jeff was overcome with grief. He called ATF’s peer support contact in the evening who said she couldn’t speak and would call him back.I've never been a big believer in "grief counseling" and it certainly is evident this guy had many other severe issues requiring a much stronger intervention, if fixable at all. I just can't wrap my head around how someone could leave his children to deal and grow up with this, which probably reflects my good fortune more than anything else.
Jeff never received a return call. He later learned that she was at a bar drinking with other agents. [More]
That said, this does provide an object lesson for those of you who are enthusiastic parts of the machine: You don't think they really care about you, do you? And won't serve you up in a second if that's what they find expedient and advantageous...?
Q&A
Stand Your Ground laws reverse a centuries-old legal tenet...[More]
Oh, go bleat somewhere else, you...you anti-gun male. And if you're going to wear one of these things, stop popping it out in front of people and playing with it.
Natural law's a bit older than that, and fight or flight is a reaction best left to the one being threatened according to his or her mindset and level of preparedness, rather than some effete regressive getting the vapors over the fact that some of us realize bolting like a rabbit activates the chase instinct in predators on the hunt.
"Stand your ground" really only raises one question, which would weigh heavily in the mind of potential aggressors in a sane society, one that promoted the right and the means of individual self-defense:
Do I feel lucky?

Our militia from the western counties are now on their march to join you. They are fond of the kind of service in which Colonel Morgan is generally engaged, and are made very happy by being informed you intend to put them under him. Such as pass by this place, take muskets in their hands. Those from the, southern counties, beyond the Blue Ridge, were advised to carry their rifles. For those who carry neither rifles nor muskets, as well as for our eighteen months men, we shall send on arms as soon as wagons can be procured. [More]

ATF whistleblower site posts Fast and Furious manager’s OK to work for JPMorgan
One adviser perceives that there are billions of potential reasons why the bankers might be inclined to be helpful to the feds. Upon reviewing the approval form, attorney David T. Hardy called the approval “Extraordinary” and offered the opinion that the authorization was “meant to facilitate McMahon hiding out overseas,” and allowing him to return “when things cool down." Vanderboegh Medical Update
Just spoke with Mike--they've given him meds to control the hiccups, which he says has "knocked me for a loop." If they can keep that under control they can address areas damaged by the strokes--he anticipated being in the hospital at least a week. We're the Only Ones Blaming Enough
Chavez was injured after his 3-year-old son, seated behind him in Chavez’s personal vehicle, picked up the officer’s service revolver, which discharged. Chavez and his counsel argued that Glock, Inc. had a duty to warn that the Glock 21 pistol should only be used with specific holsters that restrict access to the trigger guard in light of its “light trigger pull” and lack of a manual safety device. [More]I'm afraid any natural inclination I might have for basic human sympathy is overshadowed by this guy's conduct before and after his act of negligence. But I feel profoundly sorry for his son.

ATF whistleblower Cefalu parking lot termination secretly recorded
Riehl, seen talking to Cefalu through his Jeep window and reportedly telling him he couldn’t leave because he had to sign papers, had been criticized on the CUATF forum, and Gun Rights Examiner is attempting to track down audit reports to determine what an independent assessment reveals about the allegations there. But the bottom line is, an employee with over 25 years of service who has been a leading spokesman for whistleblowers was unceremoniously canned in a public parking lot by senior division management. The Bracelet of Obedience
The TSA’s security policies are getting more and more bizarre, from testing people’s drinks for explosives to ordering all travelers to freeze on command, but could a frightening policy that was seriously explored by the DHS be resurrected – forcing people to wear taser bracelets that would deliver an electric shock if they got out of line? ATF terminates whistleblower Cefalu
Calling it “a Hindenburg of a losing case,” and predicting “ATF just substantially amplified the damages award that Cefalu will…recover at trial,” he goes on to state “It's well-known that ATF management and their viciously corrupt counsel are, for the most part, brutally self-serving and mean-spirited. Daily Double
Mitt made an appearance just down the road from me. I wanted to go, but last night was the scheduled online test for Jeopardy. I always do real well watching, typically holding my own against most of the contestants (admittedly with no pressure), so the wife thought I should give it a try, and I was curious enough to want to see how I'd do.
Man, did I fall on my face. I doubt I answered even a third of the questions correctly, so there's no danger I made it to the audition phase. Some of the stuff, I just can't imagine who would know it. Others I knew but could not retrieve in time. But bottom line, I felt like this.
As for Mitt, there's no way I'd have been able to approach close enough to tell him what I expect in the form of a question anyway.

It seems like he had legitimate observations though, that merit discussion. In other Mike news, note he starts out with a health report update--he suffered a mini-stroke at the conference, the cause of the severe vertigo. I spoke with him an hour ago and he's going in for another scan as I write this.

I think it highly probable the Enemy will pursue this fall and Winter, especially during the latter, as they will not be under any apprehension of the force we shall then have in this quarter; and will be at liberty to make almost any detachments they please. The dissolution of half our Army last fall and Winter enabled them to make the Detachments they did against Charles Town, which has involved so many serious consequences, and the same cause will put them in a condition to push their operations or at least to attempt it, in the course of this, in the Southern States. Obama website shows gun control never really went under the radar
In short, the president wants to enact a measure opposed by the Fraternal Order of Police because it could compromise ongoing criminal investigations, he wants to end private sales, he wants to mandate nonexistent technology (“Only Ones” exempted, of course, even though the genesis of “smart gun” research and development was to mitigate police “takeaway” incidents), and he wants the federal government to withhold 19th Century firearm technology from “We the People.” [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report shows what to expect once "flexibility" improves.

Vanderboegh Medical Update
By now, Sipsey Street Irregulars...uh...regulars have noticed no posts today, and the last one from yesterday was about it being a tough one for Mike. I just got off the phone with him. He's "woozy" and sounds it. The doctors say that's caused by the cancer meds, so they're taking him off them for a few days to see if that reduces the vertigo. As it is, it's impossible for him to drive in this condition.
He says he'll try to post something later tonight. I advised him to do so only if he feels up to it and not to strain his system trying to write when he ought to be resting.
If I hear more, I'll let you know.
UPDATE: I heard more.

Black intellectual bigotry endangering poor urban blacks by disparaging guns
Read it for yourself and marvel at the subtle metaphors that include such lines of genius as…no, they really can’t be reprinted here. Just go there and click back when finished. A lesser human being could find themselves arrested for such “creative writing,” or at least earn themselves a well-deserved spot on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Hate Watch” website (sorry, evidently “stab[bing] a Jew” and “p***[ing] on a blond head” doesn’t qualify. Thing about the Sabans--they made their fortune off of lowest common denominator drek.
It could definitely taint the Univision F&F efforts as "controlled opposition." But it would require a smoking gun to prove it.

By the Numbers
You may not like the way this guy expresses himself, so feel free to come up with an explanation that makes sense of the numbers. And ask yourself if things continue to devolve what will happen to all the "advancements." [Read]

This Day in History: October 5
As they approached, one of the sentinels did detect them and fired upon them. They rushed towards the Loyalists, screaming like Indians, and firing their muskets. The Loyalists must have thought they were outnumbered and fled into the night. By the time the small group of Patriots reached the fire there was not a Loyalist to be found, but they could be heard running through the woods. [More]
