It Deserves a Vote! - T Minus 3 - Assaulted II Update
From Dead Patriot Films:
Last night the president called for a vote on pending gun control legislation to rounds of applause. His emotional call to action is driven in part by the media’s push for more gun control. How much is this media push effecting opinions on gun control?Question: Has anybody here even been forwarding these appeals to others?
A Gallup poll asking, “Would you like to see gun laws in this country made more strict, less strict, or remain as they are?”, has been asked every year over the past twelve years. The results show that over the past year there have been some major opinion changes (see table below). The increases in “dissatisfied” and “no opinion” would suggest that the constant media attack on the 2nd Amendment is working. Other polls like CBS News Poll show even more support for stricter gun control laws including an assault weapons ban and magazine ban.
Now, I’m not going to argue about how these polls were conducted or the scientific credibility of them. I’m presenting them to show that unless films like ours are made, which will educate the general public on the history and importance of the 2nd Amendment, our elected officials will sacrifice our civil rights in the name public safety without even hesitating.
Your donation is a vote - a vote for upholding our civil rights. Give us the funds to finish this production and we will produce a film that will educate and change minds.

I'd originally just been sent a link to the first video in this story and wondered if someone may have been trying to spread disinformation by putting out audio from another incident and get people to run with that -- plus I think it's good to be cautious noting all the different and changed stories coming out of Newtown. But this seems to pretty much confirm the plan was to torch the guy, and so now we need to ask why, and how that fits in with approved police protocols, because if they can use it against one "suspect," we have to ask ourselves if that's all it should take. Tonight is the State of the Union Address and we will hear the arguments for limiting 2nd Amendment rights in the name of public safety. We will hear statements that the conservative wing of our government must do the right thing and pass comprehensive gun control legislation. As Gene Hoffman of the CalGuns Foundation said at the close of the trailer, “It’s not about being a republican. It’s not about being a democrat. It’s about respecting the Bill of Rights.”
Help us finish this film to teach that the 2nd Amendment is a civil right and must be respected as such.

Unnecessary 'compromises' help anti-defense forces advance
Never surrender anything. Make the enemies of the right to keep and bear arms fight for every inch, because any beachhead you cede will be used to prosecute their next advance for more lethal laws. This morning's Gun Rights Examiner commentary warns that if you won't take the initiative to become a force multiplier to both fight preemptive surrender and go on the offense, expect to see more ground eroded out from under your feet by those who would presume to compromise your rights, and by those who enable them by not forcing the issue.

School ‘safety’ logo contest illustrates utter hypocrisy on gun imagery
But here’s the hypocrisy: Students are encouraged to depict guns if it is useful to an anti-gun agenda being promoted by the government. But if a student simply draws a gun, has a gun photo on a laptop, has a gun-shaped piece of paper, wears an “offensive” t-shirt or even points a finger, they’re likely to run afoul of the school’s “zero tolerance” policy and find themselves suspended. That makes actually having a toy gun extra-double bad. And if bubbles are involved, the “adults” in charge may just brand your five-year-old a “terrorist threat.” [More]This evening's Gun Rights Examiner entry looks at an effort at the government indoctrination camps Eric Holder might term "Brainwashing Jr."

Via RufX2, who notes:
The NRA, if it truly means to stand its ground against the real remaining issue coming out of the no-crisis-left-unused moment of Newtown, ‘universal background checks,’ needs to be more vocal as to why they should not be imposed on the individual citizen, or if so, how that would work to not result in recordation. Both of these approaches would serve to forestall the avalanche of the Bill of Rights amnesiacs and media encouraging of a generalized policy; one that they know, once enacted, will allow the unelected wonks to write the rules.

A Taxing Idea
One way to accomplish this goal is to establish a voluntary registration system for all privately owned firearms. Those who chose to register their guns would receive a card that would entitle them to purchase — tax free each year — as many bullets for each of their guns as any reasonable gun owner could use. Just show your card and a picture ID, and there would be no tax on bullets for your quota, which could easily be monitored by the same computer systems that verify the right to purchase a gun. No one would be required to register, but not doing so would make bullets much more expensive. Of course, criminals and others who are not permitted to own firearms would probably not apply for the discount, but if they did, knowing who owned a particular gun would help law enforcement track down those who illegally use them. And, for those who insisted on buying clips that held more than 10 rounds, the tax should be much higher. [More]And this guy's a law school dean.

Update to Marine Parade Rifle Column
I’d like to address some of the common objections appearing in comments to Saturday's GRE column.
My attention to this story came from an email list
run by and for Marines.
The rifles are NOT being carried in bolt open
position. The bolts have been removed.
You can tell because the operating rods are in the forward position.
The rifles in the 2009 inaugural, as shown in the
last slide show photo, did not have the bolts removed.
The issue of parade rifles carried by honor guards being
disabled in a different fashion under previous administrations, such as having
their firing pins removed, is not being argued here, although it should be—not that
it didn't happen, but that it does. But that’s
not the thrust of this article. Here’s what is:
Unlike in 2009, in the 2013 inaugural parade,
someone in authority made the decision to change that and order the Marines to march
with visibly disabled guns.

Yours is the cowardly, deluded mentality that makes tyranny not only possible, but inevitable, and that you would extend your self-imposed impotence on men who are your betters -- at gunpoint by police state enforcers -- makes you a particularly contemptible sort of fool. You should be hiding in shame rather than broadcasting that.
But thanks for confirming what some of us have been saying all along as a counterpoint to those lying about "common sense reasonable restrictions" to establish a beachhead from which they'll launch their next assault:
Because ultimately, the Second Amendment means what serious men with guns say it does. And you cloistered weaklings don't have anywhere near enough jackboots to throw at us and change that dynamic.

The liberal agenda once included confiscating handguns and abolishing the right to own one — never mind the right to carry one at all times. It still does, but now you have to lie about it. And you're right. You've lost.

Fall of the Female Monopoly of Violence Nut
Here you have women cooperating with you, being generous with their time to give you special insights and the benefit of their experience, and the main thing people walk away from is you're calling them nuts. [Read]

What Bob Doesn't Want
If I had been sitting on that panel I would've emphatically replied, "No. I don't want some other dude with a gun in the room. [More]And what exactly would you be prepared to do about it if "some other dude" just laughs at you and takes aim?

This Day in History: February 8
I have just received intelligence, which, though from a private hand, I believe is to be relied on, that a fleet of the enemy's ships have entered Cape Fear river, that eight of them had got over the bar, and many others were lying off; and that it was supposed to be a reinforcement to Lord Cornwallis, under the command of General Prevost. This account, which had come through another channel, is confirmed by a letter from General Parsons at Halifax, to the gentleman who forwards it to me. I thought it of sufficient importance to be communicated to your Excellency by the stationed expresses. The fatal want of arms puts it out of our power to bring a greater force into the field, than will barely suffice to restrain the adventures of the pitiful body of men they have at Portsmouth. Should any more be added to them, this country will be perfectly open to them, by land as well as water. [More]

We're the Only Ones Shooting Holes in the Theory That We're Better Trained and Safer Enough
Look at the holes in that truck.
Look at how many rounds they fired.
And there was a second shooting?
Shooting newspaper delivery women. They didn't even have a target identified. If you or I were afraid of a stalker and had done that, imagine how the antis, the newspapers, the politicians, the police hierarchies and the police unions would be exploiting that to "prove" that mere "civilians" are just too untrained and prone to panic to safely use guns for self defense.
This was an act of unprovoked aggression and absolute hysteria.
Caused by one guy. One crazy guy from their ranks.
There are lessons to be observed here, and from the Malvo/Muhammad episode, particularly if any widespread gun enforcement becomes part of a national plan. You know, the same "laws" Dorner demands "Whether by executive order or thru a bi-partisan congress."
