We've discussed the goings-on in Vermont quite a bit here at WarOnGuns and at Gun Rights Examiner, and I keep getting more email updates that there's just not enough of me to keep up with, considering all the other stories demanding attention. So I thought it appropriate to remind readers this is an ongoing issue that should be of interest not just to Vermonters, but to all of us who need to be on guard against municipalities trying to enact patchwork quilt gun grabs, such as a stealth threat I recently exposed in Ohio.
My suggestion is to bookmark the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs website and consult it on a regular basis--and if you're a Vermont gun owner to do your part to help them continue the fight. I'll be keeping an eye on things in case there are any big developments requiring special reporting, but for the most part, and to the relief of most, there's only one of me.

The firearms you hive insects want militarized police shock troops, deploying with true "weapons of war," to seize from your countrymen have been around for how many decades?

MAIG documents suggest misuse of public funds, conflict with Brady Campaign
MAIG had not yet merged with MDA at the time the information requests were filed, and the question of whether city facilities, assets, personnel and clock time were used to work on the Moms’ group operations and activities, in addition to MAIG’s, merits being looked into. Such an audit should include as many other personnel as may have been involved, along with relevant phone records, emails and time reporting, if applicable. DeBlasio conspicuously absent as Bloomberg still listed on MAIG site
That this has evidently not happened yet may just be a bit of payback, or, if his resentment for past attacks is strong enough, DeBlasio may wish to pursue an independent “gun control” agenda without giving any support to the Bloomberg efforts altogether. If that turns out to be the case, it would be a major embarrassment, not to mention a supreme irony, for Bloomberg to lose his flagship New York City at the same time he is expanding MAIG efforts into the states. Well guess what? Bloomberg formed a well-funded and professionally-staffed lobbying action group in August, and if you think the state gun groups have been overwhelmed before, just wait 'till they try to keep up with the assault they'll be facing this year, especially while welfare parasite gun owners sit by the sidelines and let others do all the lifting.

Keeping Up Those "A" Ratings
In a chat session this month with the liberal magazine Texas Monthly, Cornyn revealed he and Lindsay Graham will introduce a bill strengthening the NICS federal gun owner registration database and place more Americans on lifetime gun ban lists. [More]Some in the "gun establishment" have been itching to use this as a sellout point since right after Newtown. I was privy to some insider conversations where the sentiment was our legislators have to give their constituents something. We know NSSF is behind it, and through a combination of carefully crafted weasel words here and tactical silence there, so is NRA.
I haven't seen the bill (I didn't find it yet on GovTrack) to compare how it actually reads against the allegations, but that doesn't change my position of not giving anything up through preemptive surrender. I don't care what it says, if it cedes an inch, then no.
They're feeling bold enough to do this because it's been green-lighted, and probably written, by the same genius minds who sold out "undetectable guns" and, years earlier, normal capacity magazines, a betrayal that would have given a distinct market advantage to positioned insiders.
Hey, remember when NRA was dragged kicking and screaming into promising they would score the Sotomayor vote? Lindsey? And Kagan? Lindsey?
How come they still give him an "A"?
Too bad some of us weren't successful at ginning up enough support when it was Holder's turn at bat, which was also good for Lindsey.
I'm sure I'll have more to say about this later.

CCDL Nixes "Blue Collar Republican"
I just received this press release from CCDL:
Groton, CT- January 8th, 2014 The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (The state's largest grass roots 2nd Amendment rights group) Is speaking out against Mark Boughton's official bid for governor. CCDL President Scott Wilson stated the following: "Gun owners in Connecticut are not going to accept or vote for candidates that support gun control; especially ones seeking the highest of State offices". Wilson went on to say: "Mayor Boughton is a coalition member of an active anti-2nd Amendment organization (MAIG) that claims to support sensible gun reforms. In reality the group, 'Mayors Against Illegal Guns' continually works to infringe on the rights of law abiding gun owners. The Mayor's statements about the recently passed gun laws, are also very troubling to gun owners in Connecticut".Hopefully, his collar won't be all that's blue.

Conclusive Results
The purpose of the present study is to determine the effects of state-level assault weapons bans and concealed weapons laws on state-level murder rates. Using data for the period 1980 to 2009 and controlling for state and year fixed effects, the results of the present study suggest that states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states. It was also found that assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level. These results suggest that restrictive concealed weapons laws may cause an increase in gun-related murders at the state level. The results of this study are consistent with some prior research in this area, most notably Lott and Mustard (1997). [More]Uh-oh.
