How, once the "pathway to citizenship" kicks in while you guys have been utterly and deliberately silent about it so as not to rock any access boats? [Watch]
Hearing "Thanks for having me on" at the very start of this clip set the tone, at least for me. Like the guy has a choice?
I see the expected apologia for the Cornyn bill, which at this writing has still not been posted online, addressing what he calls "misinformation," while totally ignoring some key questions we really deserve answers to if we're expected to climb on board. Instead, we get competing rice bowl accusations instead of guarantees that the term "adjudication" they're throwing around provides equivalent protections to a jury trial, rather than just a rubber stamp from the bench.

High gun ownership linked to high rate of police officer deaths, study shows [More]Correlation = causation? Then we must ban ice cream!
There are all kinds of statistical tricks going on to derive the above "claim," and John Lott shows us how they do the con.
There's one other factor, and that's the definition of "ownership," which is a legal and moral term. Mere "possession" of a gun does not qualify for the term any more than being a carjacker makes one a car owner.
No matter: Our Fourth Estate Fifth Columnists are on the job making sure the hive mind is saturated with the lie. See for yourself how many iterations have been picked up by the Google News feed alone, and then realize the message is also being propagated by TV networks, blogs, social media, etc.

There Can Only Be One
The Walsh administration’s much-touted gun buyback program has taken in just one firearm so far this year [More]Hey, if it saves one life...
Right? I mean isn't every gun a killer? Besides, he's not about to admit defeat:
Declaring that “we need to get guns off the street,” Walsh renewed his pitch of the buyback program at a mid-afternoon press conference yesterday. “We need to make sure we double our efforts on that,” the mayor said.See, if we double our efforts, we can get two guns!
Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy Redux
"They'll try to tell you it's about Benghazi, but it's not," Clinton said, pointing to Republican-led congressional inquiries that she said had "debunked all the conspiracy theories."
"It's not about emails or servers either. It's about politics," she said. "I won't get down in the mud with them. I won't play politics with national security," Clinton said at the annual Wing Ding, a Democratic fundraiser in northern Iowa that attracted three other presidential candidates. [More]Yeah, nothing contradictory about that.
Expect to see variations on this theme repeated over and over and over again by her operatives and apologists.

The Fix is In
Administration officials praised the ruling. [More]Of course they did.
By the way, calling Larry Klayman a "gadfly": That's some objective reporting.
As for appealing to the Supreme Court, all they have to do is not hear the case.
There is one other "legal" option before deciding all judicial doors have been barred shut:
Precedent has already been set for a federal judge to issue an injunction against implementation of executive amnesty, albeit through a different route.
Back before Congress allowed guns in national parks due to a rider on a credit card bill, a move by the Bush administration though its Interior Department was halted by an injunction from a federal judge siding with a Brady Campaign complaint and ruling that no environmental impact study had been conducted as required by law.
Now that it appears the administration's amnesty action was conducted under DHS memorandum, the parallels are even more marked, minimizing potential executive action immunities. It would seem a lawsuit based on the same grounds filed in a carefully selected jurisdiction would have precedent to achieve the same results.
Yeah, I know, they'd just find a way to weasel out of that as well. That's because the fix is in and those intent on fundamentally transforming are confident that any opposition will be small and scattered.
Good thing this has nothing to do with that "single issue."

The Finest Tyranny Money Can Buy

Power Corrupts and Woody Woodpecker Paraphernalia Corrupts Absolutely
A Facebook comment on a post promoting my latest TTAG piece brought back something I haven't thought about in, like, forever: My first management fail. More specifically, it was a Woody Woodpecker avatar that got me to remembering.
Back when I was probably around seven, falling for an offer on the back of a box of Rice Krispies, I enrolled in the Woody Woodpecker Club. My Mom wouldn't let me spend 50 cents on the hat, but I did get the ring and a membership card. I seem to remember the ring had a Woody stamp that would allow you to officially mark things.
Having all the official trappings of office, I formed my chapter. Since I had the One Ring of Power, I appointed myself President, and offered my older sister and two neighbor kids the opportunity to serve as minions.
Right out of the starting gate, the first meeting did not go well. Even though I was clearly President, because it was my idea and I had officially recognized status and everything, the insubordinate underlings wouldn't obey me when I tried to boss them, as was my clear right! Within moments I ended up sequentially yelling "You're fired!" at all three, saving the loudest termination for my sister, who by that point had become not just rebellious, but actually insolent, if you can believe it.
There I sat self-deposed and fuming, with no one to rule over, plotting my revenge against those ingrates. At least I still had the Precioussss...
My excuse is I was a kid. You have to wonder about "adults" who still make a point of showing everyone their rings, and issuing arbitrary commands to a membership that's not allowed to quit.
Even though I like to think I have lost all desire to control others, recalling this makes me realize I haven't quite shaken the cravings for power. I just emailed my sister the links to the old Kelloggs offer with the message "It’s not too late to apologize, promise to start obeying and reapply."
Let's see if she's matured any since then, and is willing to make some reasonable, common sense compromises.

Operation Big Sky
The Pacific Patriot Network, under the leadership of the Oath Keepers, remains operational in the Lincoln, Montana area. We are committed to securing the mine site of George Kornec and Phil Nappo, owners of Intermountain Mining LLC, which was requested due to threats to their mining venture. There is a dispute between the actions taken by the United States Forest Service and the miners. Our goal has been and will continue to be to secure that area from threats until a legal action takes place within the court system. [More]Jeez, from the "progressive" reaction, you'd think somebody threw holy water on a demon or something. I guess they really aren't about egalitarian power sharing, are they?

This does not look to be a matter of exercising fully-informed jury rights -- the place for that was in reaching the verdict. [More]
This seems more like a matter of lying to keep from being disqualified as a juror -- assuming gross prosecutorial incompetence is not to blame. I can't believe -- in order to accept a juror -- the prosecutor didn't ask each one some unequivocal form of: "If a guilty verdict is reached in this capital case, will you be able to vote for the death penalty?"
Was that question asked? If it was, and if the juror answered "Yes," he or she lied under oath.

Donald Trump’s Gun-Free Zones
The three they list as “gun-free zones” are all in Democrat-controlled bastions with histories of extremely restrictive gun laws: Chicago, Hawaii and Los Angeles. [More]Good luck even getting a "permit" in those last two places.
In terms of his hotels, the real test would be Las Vegas. I can't find any evidence the place is posted. If you know different, edumacate the rest of us.
What it looks like is the guy's continued rise in popularity, despite the best efforts of GOP lackeys at Faux News, is scaring the hell out of Establishment Democrats, too, so they're giving the smear campaign a boost -- kind of like the way Pelosi helps Boehner when the chips are down.
As I've shown many times, I'm no Trumpeter, but I am enjoying the hell out of the way this wild card who ignores their rules has got all the other phonies sputtering. And Erick Ericson, Red State and his Comment Nazi moderator just forfeited all credibility and relevance.
Here's a turnabout's-fair-play question for the other Republican candidates: If Trump is the nominee, will you support him?

About Last Night
More than anything else, a Thomas Pynchon quote comes to mind. Especially while watching the Luntz post-game wrap-up.
Anyone who's read my past assessments of him knows I'm no Trumpeter. But after watching last night's total and undisguised virtual assassination attempt by Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace, and continued (and wholly unjustified) crowing by Liz Peek and other establishment media whores in their desperate attempts to manipulate public opinion, my low opinion of controlled opposition Faux News just sank even deeper.
These media conspirators-- what else would you call them? -- aren't really attacking The Donald -- he's just an avatar for people attracted to him because they're sick and tired of all the evil bullshit and don't know where to turn, but know it's not toward the RINOs. Those are the ones the elitists really have contempt for.
It looks from where I'm sitting, despite desperate attempts to convince everyone otherwise, like the hit job backfired and all the damage was from blowback. Look for the politics of personal destruction to go to the next level. And if that doesn't work, I won't be surprised to see things get even more personal.

Cornyn’s NRA-Backed Mental Health Bill Needs to Address Key Questions

It would help if we knew what protections equivalent to those provided in a jury trial that will provide. Specifically, will decisions rely on those who may have biases of their own, as can currently be the case, with ATF’s “clarifying the term ‘adjudicated as a mental defective’ to mean a determination by a court, board, commission or other lawful authority,” and with some states applying even broader “standards”? [More]Since when does throwing a scrap of flesh to a pack of circling jackals encourage them to do anything but close in for more? To expect otherwise is just crazy.
Speaking of Mad Men and GUNS...
