Still Got Them Yellowstain Blues

How America’s center-right party started to lose its mind, as told by the man who tried to keep it sane. [More]

So per the "progressives" at Politico, anyone to the right of Quisling squishes like the guy who puts the "eh" in "Boner" is insane.

Have another cigarette, addict.

Jimmy Carter once asked if being a Christian was against the law, and you were accused of being one, would there be enough evidence to convict you in a court of law. His point was that there are plenty of people who claim to be Christians but fail to incorporate the principles of Christianity into their daily lives.

Similarly, there is no shortage of people who, for one reason or another, claim to be conservatives, but show little or no evidence of being one. One problem that rears its ugly head is that, unlike the definition of "Christian", there's no real clear cut definition of conservatism. It's almost akin to obscenity in that we have trouble defining it but know for sure if we see it. In that vein, I think most folks would agree that Reagan, Goldwater, and Buckley were conservatives, but the Rockefellers, Bushes, and Kochs are not. Being a member of the Chamber of Commerce might increase your chops as a Republican, but not have any relevance to your claim of being a conservative.

What, exactly, are conservatives supposed to be in favor of conserving? How about those inalienable, Creator endowed rights mentioned by Jefferson and supposedly protected by our Constitution? Let's drill down to just one of them, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. What did John Boehner do in his time in office to preserve that right and/or roll back any of the accumulated infringements on it? How many federal gun laws did he attempt to repeal? How many times did he bring concealed carry reciprocity up for a vote? He didn't. He fought every attempt to do so. Whether John Boehner sees himself as a conservative is beside the point. When push comes to shove, on the bell weather issue of RKBA, there's no evidence to persuade the jury to convict.

Paraphrasing another famous Democrat, JFK, those who make moderate conservative goals impossible, at the same time make radical conservative goals inevitable. The Chamber of Commerce wing of the Republican party and their blocking of the goals of the conservative wing's goals are directly responsible for the rise of the Mark Levins, the Rush Limbaughs, the Sean Hannitys, the Ted Cruzes, and all the rest the more radical right.

John Boehner made his bed. He needs to shut up and lie in it.
