Million Moon March Gallery III

Blognomicon notes an inconsistency with Control Arms' acceptance policies. Apparently, a screenshot over at Thus I Have Spoken showed a graphic (©Oleg Volk) from the Million Faces website that they had rejected when he submitted it. Oh well, it's there now.


Captain of a Crew of One
finally got some respect for a Nobel Prize nominee and gun control advocate. Tookie thinks if world governments "get tough on arms," his tough arms will be the only ones wielding a shotgun as he blasts his helpless victims to death. The Million Facers want to give Tookie that advantage.



The Captain also treats us to some other men whose identical costumes make them appear to be fraternity brothers, or members of the same club or something. Since Control Arms added their pictures to their gallery of supporters, perhaps they're members of some peace group...?

Here's another one the Captain found, where "Jack" lets all those Control Arms supporters know what will happen when they abdicate responsibility for their own protection and rely completely on the government. Obviously, anyone who would do such a thing doesn't know Jack.

I note from comments on the Captain's post that Fish Or Man--who points us to a "Control Arms Success Story"-- may have been involved in posting some of these? Steamdragon is trying another novel tack--victims of government "gun control" enforcement. If Control Arms succeeds in getting more citizen disarmament laws passed, you can bet there will be plenty more opportunities for new Waco and Ruby Ridge-type massacres--for the children.

It also looks like Tookie got his name in twice. Sneaky Tookie! People can't turn their backs on you for a second, can they? What a card!



Likewise, "Jeff" has now made his second appearance. I think the first time, he went simply by "D." Oh well, call him anything--just don't call him late for dinner!



Nicki continues the "Predators on Parade" theme, and got a nice "thank you" addressed to "Joe Tito" from his pals at Control Arms. I cracked up when I realized she posted this on their "Yugoslavia" page.



Fun Bob also had fun with the predator angle. I knew he submitted Nazi mass murderer Adolf Eichmann, aka "Ricardo." I just couldn't believe Control Arms would post it, along with a heartfelt plea to be made safe from armed violence.



Meanwhile, Jeremy H. is on an emotional rollercoaster after being continuously rejected by the Million Faces campaign. They seem to like terrorists, Nazis, child molesters, criminals and murderers, but they didn't like seeing Jeremy happy--which I can understand--or fearful--which, considering their natural state, is surprising. Here, Jeremy wants to assure them that when it comes to guns, he feels their pain.



At least Jeremy's submission of Saddam crony Ibrahim al-Duri was acceptable. Jeremy--I think I know what your problem is. You need to go help gas a bunch of Kurds first, and then resubmit your pictures.



Still, Jeremy shouldn't feel alone. Bill Clark also knows the sting of rejection, which is too bad, because these guys are part of the same dreamy boy band that the Million Faces went gaga over, above.


I guess I just don't understand why Control Arms rejected these last two. I mean, who wouldn't want to give up their guns after seeing these guys?

Keep 'em coming--I think we're having an effect because I see many new submissions from the antis--and they look like they were all taken at the same convention or something--which could mean they are aware and countering. The switching of Reinhard and Josef seems to confirm this.

Thanks to those of you who have supported this, and if you're one who hasn't yet, come on--join the fun. It'll take you less than 5 minutes and won't cost a dime. When have you ever been solicited for a 2A cause where that was all that was asked of you?

Why not join me in sending a copy of these symbols of repression getting their just deserts to the Chinese government , along with the message "Death to Jingjing and Chacha"?

Who knows? Maybe these new mascots will find their way into the hands of some liberty dissidents and give them some ideas. Perhaps if this--or similar graphics--makes its way around, it'll turn up on Google-China image searches that aren't filtered to suppress the terms "Jingjing" and "Chacha."

And perhaps, some day, the haughtiness will be gone from the wretched, imperious Chen Minli. Perhaps her arrogance will be replaced by guilty trembling as a citizen tribunal judges her for crimes against liberty...

Cheney's Got a Gun

At least once a year, police officers throughout Kansas head to the firing range, line up their handgun sights and fire 50 rounds at a body-shaped target.

Once a year?

50 rounds?

That's what "the only ones" consider "proper training"?

No wonder Gov. Kathleen Sebelius "thinks concealed carry creates a risk for law enforcement."

A good number of the folks who would opt to do so consider 50 rounds a warm-up session. Do we really want to subject our officers in the field to such disproportionate and overwhelming competence...?

I-Witless News Team Warns of "New" Gun Scare

The weapon is called a F-N Five-Seven Handgun. According to the safety alert obtained by The Boston Globe, the handgun fires bullets at such a high speed, they can punch through a bulletproof vest.

Just once I'd like to see an "Eyewitness News Team" comprised of more than vacuous bubbleheads with no actual knowledge of their subject matter.

We're the Only Ones. Period.

A measure that would regulate loaded firearms in vehicles was blocked in a Senate committee Friday and likely will fail unless it is substantially changed.

Citizens can carry firearms with loaded magazines in vehicles in Utah, but SB24, sponsored by Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Lehi, would clarify where and how the firearm is secured.

More controversially, Madsen's bill also would allow guns to be carried with a cartridge in position ready to fire...

The Utah Association of Police Chiefs and other law enforcement groups say such ready-to-fire guns in vehicles could escalate road-rage confrontations into firefights and make more arms available to thieves and children.

Naturally. As we've proven time and again here at WarOnGuns, they're the only ones professional enough to be trusted with loaded firearms. The rest of us are just a bunch of uneducated, tyrannical, emotionally unstable, arrogant, vicious, accident-prone, unethical, careless, untrustworthy and hotheaded brutes who will only end up hurting ourselves or others...

Trouble in Paradise: One Board Member's Response

I got one email back regarding my reply to the Board regarding cougar sightings at R-Ranch in the Sequoias and the Board's new "(No) Firearms" policy:

David,

Your response to Norma was apparently forwarded only to the board.

I was the only nay vote on the board for this rule, and even an owner who doesn't support guns believed this unenforceable, and said so.

Mel was instructed to include all my comments as to why I was going to vote against this rule.

She chose not to do so on the draft that was published.

This is some of what I said, it doesn't cover all the points:

1. A rule should be in response to multiple violations or infractions, not based on a signal incident.

2. That the rule should be enforceable. This rule may provoke owners to become "policemen".

"Susan spoke against the proposed rule, noting that the Ranch has successfully managed without this rule for over 15 years. Susan further said that rules should be implemented for multiple violations and enforceable; this rule was based on one incident, handled peaceably by the Sheriff, it will be difficult to enforce, and could create further division between owne

Well, despite my lone opposition (most gun owners are truly ignorant sheep when it comes to being radically jealous of their rights) the Board passed it:

WARNING: Big Cats and cold weather

Mother Cougar and two cubs were spotted on the Ranch this week. Another cat was spotted yesterday at about 4:30 P.M., that's correct late after noon, this large healthy looking Cougar was sighted walking behind Cabin 333. A couple of our Employees hit a Cougar down by McNallys the other day on their way home, not to worry the Employees are OK and the cat ran off. A different Employee had a Cougar on their property in Weldon.

If you are planning a trip up to the Ranch, make certain you plan to stay in large groups, make certain you will not be wondering about after evening, and make certain you plan to stay with the kids!!

The Weather Service is announcing COLD weather arriving Thursday -- In other words Winter has returned!!!!

The Service is suggesting a possibility of rain and/or snow, but COLD. Please bring your warm clothing and don't forget your chains (just in case!!).

One more item. Please be extra careful, Forestry has already designated fire hazard as HIGH.

How Many Checks Could a Gun Check Check...?

A bill that would let concealed-gun permit holders skip federal background checks when purchasing firearms died Tuesday after a half-dozen law enforcement officials and anti-gun activists testified against it...

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey called Kester's bill flawed, insisting it would have created loopholes and undermined current laws.

"When the concealed-gun law was first passed in the state, I don't think it was intended to be a gateway not to undergo a background check," Morrissey said.

The concealed gun permit process is a background check, you dolt.

I think I've found the answer to my question. You call it a "Morrissey."

Prime Minister Stephen Harper's promotion of a senior gun registry bureaucrat has put one of his MPs in a tough spot -- Gary Breitkreuz once blamed the civil servant for huge cost overruns.

"The transition team must have seen something under the hood that I didn't see," the Saskatchewan MP said yesterday of Maryantonett Flumian...

[Breitkreuz] charged that as project leader, [Flumian] had been personally responsible for mistakes with the gun program that ended up costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

"Didn't you feel some kind of responsibility to inform your political masters that this project could never be implemented, that all the firearms in Canada could probably never be registered, that the costs would skyrocket?" Breitkreuz asked her at the time.

I know the Peter Principle is when you promote someone to their level of incompetence. What do you call it when you break through that barrier and kick things to a level beyond?

A New York Minute

Yesterday, I said I'd look into whether or not Jeanine Pirro living with a convicted felon husband and several firearms was problematic in the eyes of the law. So far, the code I've been able to find hasn't addressed this specific set of circumstances, although I admit I'm far from versed at interpreting relevant Empire State Consolidated Penal Laws. The difficulty I'm having centers on "presumption of possession." Anyway, I'll continue seeing what I can find out about this--if anyone has any knowledge or leads, please feel free to comment.

While looking into this--as so often happens--another story is emerging that is indirectly related. Pull a loose thread and you never know what the unraveling will reveal. Not to be coy, but let me wait until I compile more (time-consuming) information before saying more...

Jeanine Pirro--The Gun Owners' Best Friend

Seeking to dispel the notion that her liberal views on abortion, gay rights and gun control might make her not to their liking, state attorney general candidate Jeanine Pirro told the state Conservative Party leadership on Monday that when it comes to guns, she knows a bit about lock and load.

Republican Pirro, the former Westchester County district attorney, said her main goal has been to keep illegal guns out of circulation, not curtail legal gun ownership...

"And, by the way, I have a .22, a .38 and a Mauser," she added, eliciting a big round of applause from the Conservative Party leaders.

That must be why she joined in the New Yorkers Against Violence Columbine Blood Dance to demand "renewal and strengthening of the federal assault weapons ban."

That must be why she launched a “gun amnesty/buyback” program—“no questions asked,” naturally, “to get illegal and unwanted weapons off the streets.”

Clap, Conservative Party "leaders," for this hypocritical enemy of liberty who didn't need to care about the ability of New Yorkers to defend themselves. After all, she had a taxpayer-funded bodyguard who made more than $87,000 in overtime in addition to his $101,000-plus salary.

Let the Republican leadership (you know--the guys always hitting gun owners up for campaign contributions) spin for you what a great pal she is--or at least cow you into continuing to eat whatever crap they shovel on your tray. Because they owe her one for dropping out of the Senate race against Hillary and it's payback time. Forget that New York gun owners are the ones who will make the actual payment if this citizen disarmament zealot assumes the highest law enforcement position in the state.

Hey, it's fundraising time. That means it's time to obfuscate the record and whore for cash. Besides, who else are the frightened gun rubes gonna vote for?

Yeah, Jeanine knows a bit about lock and load--give her authority and defy one of her gun control edicts and she'll lock you up. Everything else she--and her "conservative" backers are telling you about her affinity for gun rights--is a load of BS.

Because God forbid that boot on your throat has a "D" on it...

UPDATE: I was so taken aback by the gall of this fraud trying to pass herself off as a candidate worthy of gun owner support that I may have missed the real story, which just struck me. In my earlier post about her run against Hillary, it was noted her husband is a convicted felon.

Where do you keep 'em, Jeanine? Under the same roof as hubby?

Can any felon in New York live with a gun-owning wife? There's no violation of gun laws going on here, is there?

I don't have time to research this right now...I'll look into it later tonight.

It's a Good Thing...

State Rep. Clel Baudler, a retired state trooper, said he was forced to draw his gun during a confrontation with a man who threatened his life.
It's a good thing he's a lawmaker and a retired cop.

Because, as the Brady Campaign explains about Iowa gun laws, "Police have discretion" to issue a permit--which presumably means they also have discretion not to.

So if Rep. Baudler (NRA A+ rated, by the way, so no beef there) had been a "regular citizen" whose police discretion result came up negative, he could have been hurt or worse...

Million Moon March Monday: Gallery II

You're not gonna freakin' believe this. I'm not sure I do. But it'll all be explained by the end of this post.

Submissions keep coming in, and it looks like the new tack is working: Control Arms is posting the pictures of some serious scumbags.

Before we address them, let's take a look at some of the more conventional protest pictures.

Friend HZ already entered a photo of his wife demonstrating skills every responsible mother should master. He notes Control Arms doesn't shy away from using ignorant children to score propaganda points, so he thought it only fair to show what non-fearful and informed, that is, trained children look like. (Oh, my, his little girl is a doll!)




Mark P followed up on the responsible parenting theme, but Control Arms apparently found this sweet submission (© Oleg Volk) "offensive":



Brent K and his friends wish the nannies at Control Arms would leave them alone. Yeah, I caught the "bare," but what the heck? Can't some guys just have some fun without getting grammar-checked?



JT "sent this one to them." Why is it Control Arms looks at a man like this and sees a threat--and I look at him and see a potential shooting buddy?



Frank T thinks he has a way to help "stop terror." I don't see this posted over at the Million Faces campaign, so Control Arms must not agree...in fact, they're probably in terror knowing men like Frank are out there.



Jeremy H agrees. He didn't have much success when he sent in a picture showing how he enjoys himself around guns, so he thought a photo showing empathy with the Control Arms fear freaks might merit their attention. This one makes me laugh every time I look at it.




Captain of a Crew of One
looks to be a man who doesn't share in the fear. And check out what his nephew, KT, got posted on the Million Faces site! They apparently don't recognize the difference between a plea and a dare.




The Captain also has some candidates for the Predator Parade section, below. I'm sure he'll let us know if and when Control Arms posts them.

I was pleased to see Head of Bunker fame weigh in on this. When he says "I WILL NEVER! GIVE THEM UP," I'd tend to believe him--and conduct myself accordingly.



Kristopher
has a message that may underscore Head's sentiment. You don't think he's being too...ahhh...subtle, do you?



Ride Fast & Shoot Straight also has a message for the global gun grabbers. Well wadd'ya know? They posted it!



South Park Pundit brings some "Sunshine" into the lives of the gloomy gun-haters by showing them the face of a compliant subject for their global Nirvana. They liked it, proving witless submission will always win their approval!



Tomato 7, on the other hand, has no intention of going along with the program, as this graphic (© Oleg Volk) aptly demonstrates.



I don't know who to credit for this one that slipped through--the name given is "Scott", and the message is "Make me safe from armed violence." That's pretty ironic if you realize the bust is of Spartan King Leonidas, of "Molon Labe!" fame.



I also don't know who "Sam" is, who got this on the Million Faces site, but he certainly knows his math.



Those are the "old school" entries that keep with the spirit and intent of the original Million Moon March concept. Now it's time to look at the "new tack" submissions, something I like to think of as...

Predators on Parade


We, of course, must begin with GunShowOnTheNet's original plea from genocidal butcher Pol Pot to "Make me safe from gun violence" that Control Arms agreed with enough to post.

2 Valuable worried that murdering cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer might go hungry if his prey had the power to repel him. Lucky for Jeffrey he's got a friend in the Million Faces campaign. M-m-m-m...faces...




An anonymous contributor notes that Heinrich Himmler was probably concerned about "the terror trade." Naturally, Control Arms sides with an SS Reichsführer who endorses the concept of a government monopoly of power. I'd be surprised if they don't revere him as a founding führ...uhh...father.



Blognomicon! Don't you know that smoking can cause health problems? Not nearly as many as Joseph Stalin caused (what was it, something like 20 Million deaths?), but as long as he agrees with their citizen disarmament goals, the Million Facers are more than willing to overlook the pipe...



Increasingly, doctors are jumping on the gun control bandwagon, using a public health/pathogen model to discourage private gun ownership, and generally sticking their noses into patient's business with gun storage advice they are totally unqualified to dispense. David Homoney found another physician against gun violence that Control Arms agreed deserved a place of honor on their site. After all, Che Guevara was a doctor (and like Uncle Joe, above, a smoker)...



Free Constitution thinks Che's pal Fidel Castro, seen here with Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez, would like to be safe from gun violence, or at least return fire. Control Arms agrees.



Incidentally, to give credit where it's due, this was actually the first picture I was aware of matching predators with a gun control plea--but as fortune would have it, I got news of the Pol Pot photo being posted on the Control Arms site first, and that's what made me decide to change the focus of this project. Stan also has some other suggestions on his site, guys like Slobodan Milosevich, Joseph Stalin and serial killer Ted Bundy, below--I'm sure he'll let us know if they're "accepted."



Hey, I just noticed: "Jack" here--who wants to "get tough on arms"-- looks like the Slobo picture that Stan posted:



Fun Bob had fun submitting this smiling portrait of "Ricardo"-- a BIG proponent of "gun control." The fact that Ricardo's real name was Adolf Eichmann might have something to do with that.



GeekWithA.45 blew me away with "Smilin' Lon" Horiuchi, notorious for...uhh...blowing people away. Control Arms was blown away, too, because they think Lon and his friends are the only ones who can be trusted with guns.



In addition to peace-loving Sunshine in the previous section, South Park Pundit thinks convicted sex offender Daniel would appreciate being safe from armed violence. Some parents are just so intolerant! Control Arms wants to grant Daniel his wish.



Tomato 7 also has a second entry. His message is simple. "Keep Slobo safe", and Control Arms heartily agrees. I might add "It's the ethnically clean thing to do!"



Viking Ambition knows that Zimbabwean tyrant Robert Mugabe doesn't want any "more arms for atrocities," at least if they might be used to stop the atrocities his armed thugs commit. Naturally, Control Arms has adopted the Mugabe Doctrine.



In addition to his "accepted" poster shown above, Ride Fast & Shoot Straight has also submitted another supporter of controlling arms, SS-Gruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich. Good looking devil, wasn't he? Fodder--be sure and let us know if he makes the cut over at Million Faces.

Under the rules, any state senator or delegate could strap on a sidearm and stroll in, according to Capitol Police Maj. Mike Jones. They have the same rights as law-enforcement officers to openly carry a gun in the Capitol...

Regular citizens, though, must have a concealed-weapon permit to bring in a gun, either concealed or openly.

The Gun at the Reagan Library

After posting the latest Million Moon Update, I took the family on a trip about an hour north of us to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA. I've always had a fondness for the man, despite some profound differences. He was, after all, a remarkable individual. He was also a master at making you like the persona he presented, and I'm not immune. Plus, I really wanted to tour the Air Force One exhibit (Wow!), and also spend a moment of reflective silence at the president's resting place. It is a facility worthy of a special trip. Sitting on a mountaintop, the view alone is worth the drive--spectacular doesn't cover it. In addition to the exhibits already mentioned, you can tour a replica of the Oval Office as it appeared during the Reagan years, see a piece of the Berlin Wall, and wander through the various halls displaying periods and achievments of the president's life. Which brings me to why I'm sharing this. I stopped at a glass case containing several historic American firearms. There was one of unique appearance that caught my eye, something I hadn't seen before, with this description on its placard:
Springfield Armory in Massachusetts produced over 4,000 M1855 pistol-carbines, a dual-purpose firearm. With the stock removed, troops could fire from horseback. When dismounted, the horse soldier could attach the stock to fight on foot with greater accuracy. Despite such versatility, the firearm was not popular.
I've done some searching around and haven't found a good photo to share, but here's why it caught my attention: Short-barreled rifles and shotguns are strictly controlled, and the rationale in the infamous Miller decision centered around the defendant not being able to demonstrate a military application for a short-barreled shotgun. My friend and colleague Brian Puckett wrote a quite authoritative analysis on this as a supplement for the Silveira case. I'm not a lawyer or a firearms expert, nor do I play one on TV. I don't know if the existence of the M1855 makes a damned bit of difference as far as legal technicalities go, and I suspect it probably doesn't. But I just thought it was interesting, and figured someone might be able to offer some further insights. If you have something to add, feel free to leave a comment.

Feb. 1956 GUNS Now Online

A youth spent in New York City, where even admiration for a gun struck terror in the hearts of one’s elders, kept me from gun appreciation for some time. When was the last time you heard a movie star speak admiringly of his favorite gun? Yet that's the way things were when this was written.


The February, 1956 issue of GUNS Magazine is now posted for free download.

Back to Mr. Chandler's testament on page 8, for a moment: Writing half a century ago, he confirms something for us that helps to understand the present. As far back as his youth--and he was born in Brooklyn in 1918, New York City has been hostile to gun ownership (the Sullivan Laws were passed in 1911). No wonder things are the way they are there, and a disarmament attitude permeates the culture. It's their tradition.

Another Hollywood giant and avid gunman is featured, the King of the Cowboys and a personal favorite, the great Roy Rogers. Here's a picture of Roy horrifying today's enuretics by mixing kids with ...GASP...guns!!! Someone call Child Protective Services!


Round things out with a feature on the authenticity of "The Last Hunt" (one of the almost non-existent Westerns that shows people reloading), starring Robert Taylor and Stewart Granger (that's him on the cover sighting in a buffalo).

But it's not all Hollywood. There's a well-reasoned argument for hunting helping deer populations, and another advocating shotguns for the military. There's a "Workshop" article on "Fitting a New Rifle Barrel." Read why the over/under was considered "The Glamour Girl of the Shotgun World." And there's much more, including the ads, which really let you know what a different world it was back in 1956.

Weapons & Tactics Falls for Old Hoaxes

An e-friend subscribes to the Weapons & Tactics newsletter. He was very concerned about the two main features in their latest issue:



Gas pump needles and spunk ball. These stories are BS--old internet chain letter hoaxes that have been out there for years. See:

Both stories just smelled wrong. And it literally took me less than one minute to debunk them. Yet W&T has an editor-in-chief, an assistant editor, a copy editor and contributing editors.

I did some looking around on the Internet and came up with this:

Yes I have heard of the publication and until today I was ready to share it with just about anyone that wanted the straight skinny on what ever subject the publication was discussing. Then came Volume 10 Number 2 Feb. 2006, which had a article about “Watch out for needles when pumping gas.” Well for some reason I decided to check this out for myself and found that this is apparently a hoax that has been around the internet since 2000. I found out that on June 20th, 2000 the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department issued a press release declaring it a hoax and stating that the author, Capt. Abraham Sands was not at the Department.

I have written the publisher and directed that my name be taken off their mailing list immediately and that no further publications were desired, even if I had remaining months on my subscription.

I am both a Texas Certified CHL Instructor & NRA Instructor so I can’t afford to be relying on sharing publications that print this type of garbage with my current & former students.

In their defense, W&T probably got these stories from people they trusted. Still, that's no excuse for this. They're not only charging their readers for wrong information, they're charging them for free information. I'm sorry, but this just smacks of taking their readers for granted.

It may turn out this is a one-time goof, and that their newsletter is a valuable and authoritative publication. If you're a subscriber or a potential one, you'll need to decide for yourself whether or not this is a showstopper for you.

My friend tells me he called them and they are aware they goofed. If that was my newsletter, I'd be issuing a profound public apology, offering refunds for that issue, and telling my customers what safeguards I've established to keep such an abuse of their trust from ever happening again.

I've emailed the editor twice in the past two days before posting this and haven't received a reply. Note that what I've posted has been extensively edited from my initial reaction, which included a lot of scathing criticism. I decided that wouldn't be productive.

This is a real object lesson for those of us who have fallen for chain letter hoaxes in the past, and forwarded them to our friends. Passing on bogus material calls our credibility into question. We have a tough enough time reaching outside the choir without giving our opponents a convenient way to dismiss us outright.

Here's a good rule of thumb to apply before forwarding an incredible story: Is a link to a credible source included? If not, until you can find something that verifies authenticity, take a pass on passing it on--having enough junk mail to wade through isn't really a problem, is it?
