What Do We Have Left to Barter? Our Souls?‏

I’ve been told the following history lesson was delivered during a sermon a few Sundays ago to a church in Virginia. There was no documentation sent with the e-mail I received so I decided to see just exactly what the 47th chapter of Genesis actually has to say. I checked 7 different versions (translations) and the message is the same in all seven. If you would like to read all seven, I have attached a MS Word file for your, as Rod Serling was fond of saying, “perusal”. [Note: I copied and pasted it below--DC]

Four thousand years ago economic hard times fell upon Egypt , and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses. So, the people brought their money to Pharaoh, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. This went on until the peoples’ money ran out and they were hungry again.

When they returned to Pharaoh for additional grain, they brought their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkeys - to barter for grain, and the Genesis record says that only took them through the end of that year.

But the famine wasn't over. The next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.

We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to "share the wealth" once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago as slaves to the government. This time, however, we will (have) become slaves to our own hired hands.

What Obama's government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. A lot of people like to call Obama a "Messiah" and “the light bringer”. Is he a Messiah? The Egyptians said, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh".

Actually, the ancient Egyptians may have gotten a better deal than the one we’re receiving. They only had to pay out 20% of their livelihood to their government.

20 -21 So Joseph bought up all the farms in Egypt for Pharaoh. Every Egyptian sold his land—the famine was that bad. That's how Pharaoh ended up owning all the land and the people ended up slaves; Joseph reduced the people to slavery from one end of Egypt to the other.
22 Joseph made an exception for the priests. He didn't buy their land because they received a fixed salary from Pharaoh and were able to live off of that salary. So they didn't need to sell their land.
23 -24 Joseph then announced to the people: "Here's how things stand: I've bought you and your land for Pharaoh. In exchange I'm giving you seed so you can plant the ground. When the crops are harvested, you must give a fifth to Pharaoh and keep four-fifths for yourselves, for seed for yourselves and your families—you're going to be able to feed your children!"
25 They said, "You've saved our lives! Master, we're grateful and glad to be slaves to Pharaoh."
26 Joseph decreed a land law in Egypt that is still in effect, A Fifth Goes to Pharaoh. Only the priests' lands were not owned by Pharaoh.

Here's the crux of what we need to know about them from their "Positions" page:

Seems pretty definitive and "Only One"-like, does it not? Presumably, if we say "No," they would support using police powers to enforce such edicts against their countrymen. And the Oath Keepers are the ones we're told are the dangerous extremists? [More]

Unfortunately--or perhaps fortunately--you need to subscribe to this rag to read it, so I had to link you to a forum instead of the actual newspaper website.

Some are suggesting polite and courteous emails to the editor and publisher as being the appropriate way to deal with this.

I disagree.

I think the only way to deal with this with any chance of getting results would be to target their major advertisers--set up protests with signs in front of the big car dealership, etc. Let them know what you are doing and why, and that you'll stop when they stop advertising. Then move on to the next target.

Of course, that would require having committed activists in the area willing to expend more energy than sending a polite and courteous email, so my suggestion is almost certainly impractical. Eh. My guess is only a handful will even send an email.

Until gun owners get it in their heads that there is a war on guns in this country, and it actually requires them to do something, apathy and laziness will continue being our greatest impediment. By not making this a priority while things are easy, they're increasing the odds that things will get hard.

In the mean time, there will always be those whose names don't show up on any permission lists.

What they're saying in the Chicago case is essentially the same thing they said in the Heller Washington D.C. case: Gun bans are "reasonable" and consistent with the Second Amendment proscription that "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

We're the Only Ones Stripped Bare Enough

Newly obtained documents reveal a former Scottsdale police officer may have illegally strip searched as many as 20 Valley women during his two years on the force. [More]

If he'd tried that on some of the women I know, ol' Chong Kim here would have ended up in deep kimche.

The thing about "Only Ones" stories like this that always gets to me is just the fact that they believe they operate in a culture that allows them to get away with it. That and their attitude that citizens are chattel to be used and disposed of as they see fit.

Maybe this is why:

A police spokesman said the department also investigated possible criminal charges against Kim, but determine he did not violate any state laws.

Think they'd have been able to gin up some relevant statutes if one of the victims had...uh...blown this evil pig to hell?

And then there's this:

"Clearly this was an officer who was going way beyond his job description," said Ulises Ferragut, a defense attorney who has been involved in similar cases.

Really? It wasn't within established department protocols? Or is Ulises here just having fun with wry understatement?

And it seems they're always sent by people clueless as to "BCC," so a "reply to all" delights us all. Not to mention provides a convenient cherry picking resource for spammers, especially as forwards accrue more edresses...

We have real efforts required of us. We can't afford to waste time and energy.
