I've been saying for years that the millions of members in the NRA, arguably the most armed-to-the-teeth civilian population on the planet, are responsible for fewer homicides and have a lower violent "gun crime" rate than gun-free Japan, to the point where it is statistically negligible. That should prove for all to see it's not the guns, it's the individuals. Anyone care to prove me wrong with valid data?

I understand why the point Coulter raises makes everyone uncomfortable - "R" is the new Scarlet Letter, even though we see it is pervasive in the very quarters that condemn it. Those of us who see how the concept of racism has been so cheapened and devalued by those who exploit it  are no longer afraid.  In truth, the biggest puzzler for me is why victims of real racism aren't out there chastising the opportunistic hustlers.

The problem with boiling things down to race is it obscures root causes. It's cultural. People raised in an environment based on honoring principles of liberty and responsibility are going to reflect social values and behaviors different from those raised in a government dependency environment.

That this so often manifests itself along racial lines tells us much that society as a whole is afraid to address, which suits those moving the chess pieces and pulling the strings just fine.

Too Many Emails, Too Many Tips

I can't keep up with them all.  Slow it down, please?

Truth be known, I'm on all kinds of lists, I visit all the major websites, and generally know about stories before I get individual tips -- and often get dozens sending me links to the same story every day. And I can just never get to them all.

I appreciate the enthusiasm.  Thank you for your participation. But please:  A dozen or more emails from the same person every day times dozens of people, and I'm sorry, but there is only one of me. That I give credit links and email back the link as a regular practice add to the demands on time. That actually keeps me from being able to present more commentary where it can do the most good.

I've been pondering for some time on the best way to say this without seeming like a miserable ingrate, and decided the best way is to just state how it is, figuring reasonable people and friends will understand and want to help. If you do, the best way is to share my GRE links. I see Mike did a post about that the other day, and while it caught me by surprise, he didn't say anything I haven't been thinking about, and talking to close friends about.

Until I make a decision though, please understand if I don't acknowledge all emails and social media messages.  I feel bad about it, because anyone who takes time out of their life to reach out to me deserves a reply.

That's their liberating (and truly progressive) choice, too. 

I agree that oafs shouldn't be condescending and presumptuous. And I welcome all people becoming aware and jealous of their rights, and acknowledge there's no one-size-fits-all best way to become introduced to and immersed in them.

But we can't talk full enfranchisement for women and leave out any mention of the reason for the right in the first place.  Welcome to the present, sisters. We're going to need your skill, judgment, counsel, courage and resolve.

Turn 'em In, Mr. and Mrs. Citadel?

I've intentionally steered clear of criticizing the Citadel, I've been entirely silent on the associated III Arms project, and I've basically avoided public comment about the irreconcilable differences between Mike and Kerodin. While I have weighed in a couple times on anonymous comments taunting Mike about dying, my point there was about the type of character who would do such a thing and was unrelated to their motivation. Incidentally, I've also not allowed anonymous comments attacking Kerodin to appear on this site, including comments by trolls pretending to be him.

It's no secret I am good friends with Mike, but that's not relevant to my personal assessment of this entire endeavor, at least I try my best not to let it be. Having looked at their publicly-revealed plans, I've determined it's not for me, but the reasons why are unimportant for this discussion. If your informed decision is that this is a place you'd like to invest in, I wish you well.  Peaceable people paying their own freight have the right to live wherever and under whatever conditions they choose.

I'd have probably maintained silence, except the whole thing just got a big boost from Glenn Beck, making it newsworthy and noteworthy, and I have an observation I don't see anyone else making that I think merits further explanation and discussion.

A:

The laws of the land will be followed, Idaho as well as the federal laws. Even laws that we believe are unconstitutional. We are not looking to pick a fight with anybody. We would do the best we can to make sure those laws don't pass.

Idaho being unlikely to pass such edicts notwithstanding, since one of the reasons people are attracted to the Citadel in the first place is as protection against SHTF scenarios, and since government has a documented proclivity for exploiting emergencies to impose total control, I think this is appropriate to explore further.

To that end, I'll entertain name-calling-free comments on the specific point raised in the Q&A. Note I'm not interested in assessments of the project itself or of the personalities involved. If the principals don't want to have this discussion here because my being friends with Mike makes me a suspect broker, I'd encourage them to have it somewhere more to their liking.

Too Much, the Magic Bus

From some of my emails:

Fwd: The number to call is 212-788-2439 for a ticket to attend. 

I just called that number to "get a ticket", and was told that no ticket is necessary - event is open to the public, and in a public venue, near the B-burg police station. I was advised that I could bring family,friends & neighbors... "to get the public out in force". We should be there in force too, and to hand out GSL stickers!

Well then, Bloomberg is coming to our backyard. Thought you should know.

I called the number too--it sounded like a private number as the woman answered by saying "Hello."  She confirmed no tickets were needed.

I'd like to see some further confirmation from others in the 24060 - 63 zip code area, just to make sure no one is setting up wild goose chases -- I mean, the antis wouldn't lie, would they?  I'd like to see an actual forwarded MAIG email from someone whose 2A cred can be validated.

You all know how to sign up and everybody has, right?

UPDATE: Discussion here.  One thing I'm getting from this is they may be doing these things within 1,000 feet of schools wherever they can... 

I still need to see an actual MAIG email.   Otherwise, my suspicion will be they're trying to send pro-gunners off chasing their tails.

A "Small Crowd" in Paradise

We (The Hawaii Rifle Association) had our annual Shooting Sports Fair this weekend. Even here is the overly restrictive Island (but not gun...) paradise, we had hundreds, if not thousands show up to shoot our large variety of guns....

Oh, and lots of families with children of all ages.
