If We Must DieOf course, all things considered, it may not be as romantic and poetic, but there is a preferred alternative...
If we must die, let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their mock at our accursed lot.
If we must die, O let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the monsters we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!
O kinsmen! we must meet the common foe!
Though far outnumbered let us show us brave,
And for their thousand blows deal one death-blow!
What though before us lies the open grave?
Like men we'll face the murderous, cowardly pack,
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!

Divergent views emerging on ATF gun trust rulemaking
In a related development, Gun Rights Examiner has learned that the National Firearms Act Trade and Collectors Association recently posted their petition that started this process. Previously, they had only posted an overview of their request. [More]This evening’s Gun Rights Examiner column notes that collected comments, as opposed to collector comments, can be two very different things.

And this is the most right-on bit of common sense I've heard in a long time:

We'd also have one hell of a company picnic.

And this is the most right-on bit of common sense I've heard in a long time:

Moms Press Staples for a Gun Ban
Just when you thought it was safe to buy office supplies, a small group of misguided moms is demanding that peaceful and law-abiding gun owners render themselves defenseless before they peruse the aisles for toner cartridges and mechanical pencils. “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America,” or more accurately, “Moms Demand Gun Bans,” is insisting that the office supply chain, Staples, post its stores against the legal carry of firearms. My own belief is some 4473 copying is probably going on for specific LE investigative purposes, but that's not an efficient way of getting around the law. Since the government has oversight and monitoring on banking, I would not be surprised if credit card transactions and even signed checks for gun and ammo purchases were able to be sorted out of the mix--I'd actually be surprised if that is NOT happening, and I'd like to see some oversight inquiries made. Since it would not be ATF doing it, I don't see how Congressional funding restrictions would be applicable, but I'd still like to have that investigated.

I don’t like guns. I don’t want to be around them. I perceive their presence as an imminent threat to my well-being. I understand that some gun-nuts see them as a basic right of self-defense, or as just a basic right. I see them as assertion of a non-existent right to use deadly force — to kill me or anyone else — at any and all times. I now find myself considering whether I must avoid any and all establishments where they are not specifically banned. [More]Uh...Tingwald...? Is that yours? Care to pick it up, clean the floor and secure the damn thing next time?

Constitution 101: Part 3
Clause 1 is basically a preamble to the Enumerated Powers that immediately follow and in itself does not grant Congress any additional powers. [More]The ones Chris is talking about are essentially promulgating the same misreading I've heard from useful idiots arguing for citizen disarmament based on the "general welfare" clause. In the case of a politician, though, my default belief is he knows exactly what he's doing, and he doesn't need schooling so much as he does a bucket of hot tar, feathers and a rail.
On the Water, In the Air
That's the name of a radio program on South Dakota's KSDR 1480 hosted by Jeff Anderson and Lynn D. Jurrens. I'll be joining them momentarily to talk about the UN Arms Trade Treaty.
This Day in History: October 10
I doubt not that England might be Supplied with Masts from America, if america is not upon her Guard to prevent it. Masts may be cleared out, from America, to France, Spain Holland or elsewhere, and go to the W. I. Islands, Hallifax, Bermudas. But the most probable Artifice would be to fall in with B. Cruisers by Agreement in certain Latitudes, and be taken. All this can be concerted easily( between a British Minister and an american Traiter. A fine Cargo of Masts from america was lately carried into Bermudas, and enabled those Islanders, immediately to fit for Sea a Number of Privateers. British Navigation publick and private in every Part of the World, is at this moment in great distress for Masts. If the Exportation from America is not wholly stopped, they will obtain Some supply from thence. [More]
