Honor the Request

Walmart ends all handgun ammunition sales and asks customers not to carry guns into stores ... [More]
Don't worry, I won't.

That's actually a misleading headline, though. It's open carry being discouraged ("asked") and they're also discontinuing "ammunition commonly used in assault-style weapons." They also won't sell handguns in Alaska.

Concealed carry is still being "allowed," since there's no practical way to enforce it without TSA rules. That and the Fudds will still be able to get deals during wabbit season for their shotguns, and sniper assassins will still be able to feed their powerful, scoped "deer" rifles...

Now everyone settle down and let's approach this in the spirit of compromise. If "endowed by our Creator" bothers you, there's a secular "inherent to the condition of being human" alternative you can use. And as for an AR-15, yeah, a fair reading would say that's a bit limited for intended purposes and a minimum of "in common use at the time" M4s should be encouraged, at least until upgrades in capability are available.

Ask a Stupid Question

It’s funny that the party making so much noise about equality is adamantly opposed to equalizers. How is a woman to defend herself from a guy coming at her with a sledgehammer if not by exercising her Second Amendment rights? [More]
With her bodyguards, of course.

[Via Michael G]

It's a Big Club and You're In It

I'm proposing that we campaign to reduce gun violence, and to meet our constitutional duty, by requiring that every member of the militia — which, of course,  we'll redefine to eliminate the obvious sexism and make it all adults — must own at least one long gun, one handgun, and 1,000 rounds of ammunition for each, or pay an annual $1,000 tax for failing to do so. [More]
Well, the Founders did put in a militia duty exemption for those "conscientiously scrupulous of bearing arms"...

I do have to wrestle with the coercive nature of that and wonder if things couldn't be worked out more along the lines of if you don't help, you don't get helped.

Gabrielle Giffords. [More]
Oh, bull. If liking guns was the criterion, we'd have no better pal than Lon Horiuchi.

This useful idiot was never "one of us," not ideologically. He's a Lord Haw-haw, a Tokyo Rose, an Axis Sally, except he's more absurd than those, making him more like a Howard W. Campbell, Jr. He's an exploitable face for well-financed Astro-Turfers, whose purpose is to divide and conquer by redefining forbidden infringements as "commonsense" and "reasonable." The Greater Danger

That is why I make the controversial claim that today, the "woke" hard-left is more dangerous to civil liberties than the right. To be sure there are hard right extremists who would use — and have used — violence to silence those with whom they disagree. They are indeed dangerous. But they have far less influence on our future leaders than their counterparts on the hard-left. They are not teaching our college age children and grandchildren. They are marginalized academically, politically and in the media. The opposite is true of hard-left Stalinists.  [More]

That said, here’s where BIDS could prove a very useful tool to expose the antis and what they’re really after: If the “commonsense gun safety law groups” truly only want background checks, why would they not promote a system like BIDS, which creates none of the potential registration dangers that create such strong gun owner opposition? Trump All Over Map on Guns as NRA Fights Self-Started Fires

Ultimately, it will be game over anyway unless we do one other thing, and pronto: Recognize that the Founders were pretty smart chess players themselves, and when they recognized the importance – the necessity – of a well regulated militia for the security of a free State, they knew what they were talking about. How Soon Can the Militia Apply?

Super Duty LE is available to credentialed law enforcement officers only. [More]
Why? Unless it involves state bans, there's no law requiring this, and that's not the case here.

This is a problem with email ads -- people get them and you never know who's going to spot an issue that raises questions for them. In this case, a longtime WarOnGuns correspondent brought this to my attention, and I presume his concerns will not be unique among visitors here.

I've seen the company's answer, about supporting LE and giving an affordable price point to those who have to buy their own "patrol rifles." Admittedly, it's not unheard of for a company to have a special loyalty niche appeal as part of its marketing strategy.

Then, on the other hand, we have some ornery types, like me, who can think of all kinds of concerns.

I'll hold off on saying more because I also have seen the claim that "the same configuration, as well as a much wider range of options will be available to everyone once this takes off." How soon that happens and how "uncredentialed" prices compare will tell us more.
