From the British perspective, Donald Barr Chidsey relays in his book, "Valley Forge," (p. 26) that a reasonably precise figure — which itself is suspect — is a Tory statement that between September 27, 1777 and March 26, 1778, that 1,134 men deserted the American Army and came into Philadelphia. Interestingly enough — only three of those months are part of the encampment. The bulk of these men were men who were formerly from British regiments or had lived in America a relatively short time. AR-15 owner - If the lower receiver can be slightly modified to accept an ar-15 upper, then I can understand the seizure. You can buy every piece of an AR-15 without a license, with the exception of the lower receiver which is a single piece of metal. This Day in History: March 24
On March 24, 1778 William Gallup was made commissioner of confiscated lands. The lands that were confiscated belong to those people who had remained loyal to England during the war, commonly known as Tories. Gallup appointed Matthias Rust and Charles Spaulding appraisers, to conduct sales. They issued the following report: "We, the subscribers, being appointed by William Gallup, of Hartland, in the State of Vermont, to appraise certain lots, or parcels, of land belonging to Whitehead Hicks, (and gone over to the enemy,) One lot, the property of Sturtevant, No. 6, second range, 300 acres, price 6 shillings per acre, purchased by John Sumner and Nehemiah Liscomb." Whitehead Hicks, the mayor of New York, lost about 1,422 acres and the person called Sturtevant about 1,488 acres. From this sale Captain Gallup paid into the treasury more than 1,118 pounds. [More]

Well, They Can't Say They Don't Know...

That's every newspaper and TV station in Louisiana that I could find, less the ones I had to contact via their website form. I don't know why some of them make contact so difficult--it's almost like they're afraid they might get a news tip or something. In any case, a few of these addresses bounced, but most were delivered and they all know their competitors have been informed.
Curious, that a bill being introduced to provide for guns in state parks isn't even considered "news" that merits a passing mention. Ah well, we'll see if being prodded like this in front of each other spurs some interest--and if it does, whether or not they'll mention their source.
Also curious is the lack of interest in the "gun blogger" community. Maybe I'm mistaken, this isn't newsworthy after all, and I should just stop pushing it, but in any case, thanks, PolyKahr.
The final bit of curiosity is the utter silence from the "gun rights groups."

A Sad Observation
A veteran Sunbury police officer allegedly shot and killed his wife early Saturday morning outside their Catawissa Avenue home before shooting himself in the head.
