Should owning a giant pink inflatable pig make you a 'prohibited person'?

If we're to listen to Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Mr. Stilp and everyone else on the list should now be designated "prohibited persons," and forbidden from buying a gun. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column takes the "gun control" scheme du jour to its ridiculous and inevitable conclusion.

"d-D...d-D...d-Dat's all, folks!"--unless and until we get serious and turn things around.

This Day in History: September 16

The St. Johnsville Enterprise News...published an account of Adam Helmer’s heroic run of September 16, 1778, made to save the German Flats settlers from Brant’s raiders. Helmer’s run was successful and only two of the people of the western Mohawk Valley settlements met death when the red and white savages destroyed houses, barns and crops. [More]

We're the Only Ones Carded Enough

A former suburban Philadelphia police officer accused of punching a convenience store manager who asked for ID when he tried to buy chewing tobacco has been convicted of simple assault and harassment but acquitted of making terroristic threats. [More]
A split verdict and a split lip...

I think I may have figured out what happened. Someone who knew him saw him and said "Decker," and he did.

Hey, she's lucky he didn't charge her with resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.

What is it with all the big bad Only Ones beating up women? Do we need an Abatte Award or something?

Expansionist Desires

We lost because of the invasion and expansionist desires of our enemy...[Read]
Maybe this explains why Calderon is so hot on disarming us while the soft expansionist invasion continues.

No, I'm not suggesting his government--or those who vie for control of it--would do anything overtly beyond the small skirmishes we've seen. Yet. It's the covert stuff that we need to keep our eye on--especially the stuff where they're tag-teaming with our domestic enemy politicians.

Speaking of them, I see "Give 'em Infierno Harry" is having a DREAM that sounds more like a nightmare. See, you don't need to bring foreign troops on U.S. soil if those foreign troops are American troops...

Not to paint with too broad a brush, because I know there are many foreign born who have served the cause of defending the Republic with honor and distinction, some making the ultimate sacrifice, but we can't ignore the cynical manipulators behind this latest gambit--and what they stand to gain with their own expansionist desires.

We can't be afraid to speculate on what level of understanding those raised in more authoritarian regimes have for the concept of individual sovereignty, and whether or not such a group would be more or less likely to obey certain orders without considering that.

We're the Only Ones Staining Enough

“The actions of Matthew Morris are a stain on the honor and good name of every member of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office including me,” Mascara said. [More]
Sounds like that's not all it's a stain on...

A Self-Indulgent Subversive

I never did like Krauthammer, ever since he said this:
Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic--purely symbolic--move. ... Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation.
The Cliffs of Insanity gives us more reasons to dismiss him for the neocon sterile queen bee that he is.

And don't get me started on Buckley. I ought to resurrect some stuff I did on that fraud some years back, but some of it is in hard copy files and I don't have time to look right now.

The Crazy 5 Percent

There is nothing you can do about the crazy 5 percent except ask the police to keep an eye on them during large public events, where they sometimes appear carrying machine guns just to make a political point about the Second Amendment. [More]
So, Gail Collins...name one "large public event" where that happened?

Are you a liar or just an incompetent "Authorized Journalist" tool? Do you even have any idea what I'm referring to?

It's not the "5%" you useful idiots need concern yourselves with.

Subtract two.

And congratulations on realizing there's nothing you can do about it.

A No-Brainer

But strictly as a health matter, getting rid of guns is a no-brainer. [More]
Here's the Braniac who asserts that.

A Crisis of Confidence

The public, on the other hand, must recognise that to lose confidence in the police and dismiss their efforts outright in favour of their own ‘security’ methods and even vigilante justice, is to put the entire country in a vicious circle of criminality from which there may be no return. [More]
So the only solution is to abdicate all personal responsibility and trust your life and freedom to the mercy of the "Only Ones"--and those directing them...

That's what it's all about, you know...

[Via Sam W]

As Intended

Senators, on the other hand, are elected by and represent all voters of their state. When the House considers a bill, individual members tend to base their votes primarily on how the bill might impact the people of their local district, while Senators tend to consider how the bill would impact the nation as a whole. This is just as the Founders intended. [More]
No, the Founders intended Senators to be chosen by their state legislatures. But don't take my word for it.

Now if you want to get rid of a bad one, it's a whole lot harder and more expensive to overcome the urban-dominated vote than it is to keep your local rep in line and punish him for bad confirmations. Which is what those intent on subverting things were counting on.

If I ever need to know "about" something, I know where not to go. It figures this was written by a career government worker...

David - I wanted to alert you to the postponement of tomorrow’s “Firearms in Commerce” hearing. NYT on Lead Ammo Ban

I saw their pantie-wringing screed this morning and wasn't going to link to it.

I'll link to John Richardson's deconstruction instead.

Here's what I had to say.

As far as I'm concerned, they can try--if they want to create an entire unregulated metal commodity market in lead. That may be just the free market economic boost some of us could use.

I have more on the lead issue, but I sent it to the editor at GUNS Magazine a few days back for my "Rights Watch" column, and it'll be a few months before its' published.

GO-NH Candidate RKBA Ratings vs. The Gun Rights Questionnaire

Yesterday morning I received the GO-NH voter's guide, in which they've rated candidates on RKBA. Regular readers will recall that I spent 7+ months trying to get candidates to answer the Gun Rights Questionnaire and rating them. Some readers may even recall that GO-NH Prez Kopacz expressed an interest in being provided with the candidates' responses for rating purposes of their own. So much for that idea. I knew there was a problem when GO-NH wouldn't even link to my GRQ project.

So I expected to be annoyed when the GO-NH guide came out. I am. [More]
Carl Bussjaeger explains why he's annoyed. With details.

Imagine that. "Pro-gun" candidates avoiding taking an unequivocal stand on the right of the people to keep and bear arms...and being rewarded anyway.

Ha-Ha Funny or Peculiar Funny?

Yet it’s only as the actor/director sits for an interview with the Star, talking about his new TIFF Gala premiere The Conspirator, that he suddenly realizes the irony of being both the pistol-packing Sundance Kid and an outspoken supporter of gun control.

“It’s funny — that’s the first time it’s ever come to my mind,” said
Redford, 74, smiling at the thought. [More]
Now there's a deep thinker--assuming we believe him.

But who am I to question the more enlightened? After all, when he talks about his new Lincoln assassination movie, he tells us it "is a story that very few, if any, know..."

"If any"?

Breaking news, Bob? There were co-conspirators who were arrested, tried and hanged? Aw, go on...

God, these smug, privileged dilettantes think highly of themselves, don't they? No wonder they see themselves as stewards of social justice and enlightenment for we, the little people.

Funny though, how Hollywood elites treat the help when it's their own interests on the line...

In Part Because

The National Rifle Association has long disputed the common claim that 90 percent of guns used in crimes in Mexico come from the U.S., in part, because of the fact that there are so many guns unaccounted for. [More]
No, we dispute it because "the common claim" isn't true. Ain't no "in part" about it. And the only reason it's common is because there's no shortage of useful idiots with megaphones to parrot the meme.

Frightening, how "Authorized Journalists" have the reach to influence so many--even when it's demonstrable they don't know what the hell they're talking about.

Doppelganger

A firearms lobby group is calling for a register to stop what it describes as people unfit to hold firearm licences obtaining them. [More]
You mean in addition to the Kapos?

"The National Rifle Association"...? (I suppose the suggestiveness of their url escapes them?)

Man, they sure bear an uncanny resemblance...

Why is anti-gun Mayor Bloomberg backing Harry Reid?

Do we really want to put our faith in a probable lame duck (due to age) "progressive" who has been scorned by "the gun lobby" and patronized by one of its most influential arch enemies? And one who uses an anti-gun "litmus test" for loyalty at that? [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at how the right motivation affects "loyalty"--especially when the desire for power and control over others is a factor.

Or it could be I'm just a bitter cynic, and "progressive" political leaders will not waver from firm principles and their only desire--to selflessly serve their country.

Our most politically influential "gun rights leaders" are gambling on the latter. How about you?
